Disgaea: Hour of Darkness

Strengths: Very deep replay value, great music, good voice acting, great gameplay

Weakness: Graphics aren't up to other PS2 games, gets very difficult at the end

Disgaea is a game from Atlus, which ended up flying a bit low under the radar. It's a strategy RPG, using a grid-based map for movement, with huge amounts of skills, weapon skills and levels available. With the difficulty curve of the game getting very high as the games moves on, it's very important to improve as many skills as possible as quickly as possible. RPG fans will love this game, as...

Good Game

Strengths: tremendous replay value; great game play; Good voice acting; Likable characters

Weakness: Outdated graphics; mediocre presentation

Disagaea was a big sleeper hit last year, and there are some very good reasons. At the first glance, this game may turn off many gamers who are used to flashy graphics and high production value of latest games. This game looks like one made for PlayStation 1 -- earlier one at that too. The initial presentation of the game is mediocre at best. However, if you pass the outdated graphics and...

Disgaea: Hour of Darkness

Strengths: high replay value

Weakness: Might require too much level up to move on.

This is easily one of the best RPG game. It has an intersting story, with interesting characters and good plot twist. As for gameplay, this game is really deep. You have a lot of control over your party, from equipments to character creation. The only bad thing about this game is that you might need to level up often to move on, which is actually a good thing if you want to spend more time...

Disgaea: Hour of Darkness

Strengths: cool characters, unlimited replay value

Weakness: dated graphics

this game has it all; great sound, great replay value, great storyline, and everything else. This is the greatest stragety rpg for the consoles yet. This was the best rpg of 2003. If you can track it down, buy it.

Disgaea: Hour of Darkness

Strengths: Music from Tsunami Bomb (One of my favorite Bands)

Weakness: Game is often too hard to find as it is very demandable.

This game brought to us by Atlus is similar to many of the Strategy-RPG games out there. This is a good thing though because it stays true to the Strategy-RPG stlye gameplay. 3D Grid Battle System is a classic favroite. But adding a new Formation attack system brings a whole new and awesome concept to the classic. 40 Hours of Gameplay and Multiple Endings ensures you won't be done with this game...

A game you can play for 300+ hours

Strengths: Funny and cool character. Catchy music. Japanese voice acting. Multiple endings.

Weakness: Graphics could have been better

Disgaea has a warped sense of humor and cool characters that make it great but is definitely a game geared for fans of the strategy RPG. Fans of this genre have no problem constantly levelling up characters to inflict massive amounts of damage. In addition to levelling up characters, items can also be levelled up as well explaining how one can spend 300+ hours playing this game. If you like a...

Tactical genius

Strengths: Deep, deep strategy, dozens of options, hundreds of hours of gameplay

Weakness: May be TOO deep for some

Strategy RPGs are some hard games to review, because for the most part they appeal solely to a very niche group of hardcore gamers. Disgaea is no exception, with its levels upon levels of minute details that all need to be understood at an insane level, hidden complexities that reveal themselves over time, and so many options on what you can do you are almost afraid to do anything. While these...

Disgaea

Strengths: Decent battle system, odd and enjoyable storyline

Weakness: Not much in the way of strategy, despite all of it's gameplay options.

Disgaea is an insanely popular strategy rpg from Atlus. It's the best selling title in the company's history and I was ecstatic to find a copy cheap last year. The good news is that Disgaea looks good (I actually liked the graphics for the most part) and that it contains a hefty amount of micro management. The bad news is that only hardcore fans of the game will likely stick around to see it's...

Disgaea

Strengths: Whacky Japanese humor, clever dialogue, unique features.

Weakness: Graphics are bland, even for 2D. Gameplay is a bit shallow.

If strategy RPGs, i.e. Final Fantasy Tactics, aren't your cup of tea, then stop reading this now. But if you enjoy zaniness with a healthy helping of crazy, or just want to try something different, read on. Disgaea begins with the king of the underworld awakening. Surprisingly, that's the only cliché you'll see in this game; your mission isn't to stop him. In fact, you are him. Laharl tries to...

Weakness: A bit Hard to find! Very Expensive!

Disgaea: Hour of Darkness! Published by Atlus! A true strategy RPG that is hard to pass by! I been palying this for 80+ hour any I must be about 75% through the game! Still Playing the same battle 3-4 times is just as much fun as the 1st! How many games can you say that about! Pros: Wonderful animation! Great gameply! Interesting Storyline! Disgaea HourDarkness

It's official: RPG enthusiasts are in heaven. Already inundated by a wave of new role-playing adventures in the first eight months of 2003 alone, it's been a great time for PS2 owners to love the genre. Xenosaga, Dark Cloud 2, .hack, and Arc the Lad are but a few of the titles we've seen this year already, and there's still plenty more on the way. Not to be outdone by big name companies like...
