good platformer for PSP

Strengths: fun platformer lots of collectibles great minigames

Weakness: long load times controls arent as good as the original version

Ape Escape is a great platforming game for PSP. The object is to catch apes while armed with various gadgets. The graphics are great and the game is played very smoothly. Only problem is that load times can be a bit long. Get this game if you're an Ape Escape fan or just want a platformer on the go

Ape Escape - seen it before!

Strengths: *a platformer for the PSP*

Weakness: *port of previous game, NOTHING new* - *Dual analog is GONE, makes gameplay difficult*

If you have never played Ape Escape before, then you might be OK buying this one. However, if you have played this before on prior systems, you most likely will NOT be happy. There is nothing new at all, no reason to get this unless you have a pressing need for a portable version. Even then, you will notice the loss of dual analog stick action. After playing with both sticks, it is almost...

Ape Escape: The Original Didn't Have A Subtitle

Strengths: Quirky gameplay, decent gameplay

Weakness: Only one analog stick, the camera is pretty frustrating, it's just a port of the original Playstation game

When the original Ape Escape came out for the Playstation, it was the innovative use of the dual analog controller that got critical acclaim. That's why many people (myself included), thought it was somewhat strange the Sony decided to port this game to the PSP. Without the dual analog controls, the game is somewhat bland. The aging graphics and frustratingly bad camera don't help this game out...

Ape Escape

Strengths: Nice port to PSP

Weakness: Not that entertaining

I'm not a regular to the Ape Escape series, so this was a first for me. Like all PSP games I've tried, it's a nice port to a handheld with good graphics and audio. The controls don't feel very good on this one and it makes it difficult to reach the objectives. I'm not sure exactly what it is, but at times I end up changing directions completely unintentionally. The tasks seem a bit too varied in...

Ape Escape: On the Loose

Strengths: -Great graphics for a handheld -VOICE ACTING! -Interesting gameplay

Weakness: -Not like Mario series

This was my first Ape Escape game in the whole series, so I didn't know what to expect. Without doing any researching on this game, I thought this game would be something like the 3D Mario games. Oh boy was I wrong! This game is more like a game put together with a lot of mini-games. I've only played a little bit of this game since purchase because I didn't really like the thought of having to...

Ape Escape on the PSP

Strengths: Great gameplay, lots of monkeys to hunt

Weakness: Just a port of the original, several downgrades

Now here's an interesting dilema--how do you score a game that is ported to a handheld system several years after it's release, and instead of adding content into the game (like in Super Mario 64 DS) you actually make the game worse? Cause that's exactly the situation that Ape Escape: On the Loose finds itself in. On the one hand, it's a really fun game--you use various items and go on the hunt...

Ape Escape: On the Loose

Strengths: Fun platformer, cute concept (monkeys!!)

Weakness: PS1 graphics and no additional upgrades over that version

As a basic startup platformer, Ape Escape does well when you have no expectations. Don't think of a Mario-experience. The mini-games are inspired but still fall short of capturing an addictive quality to them. As a basic platformer, it doesn't have showstopping mechanical flaws. Controls are crisp and the character performs as you would expect him to perform. This game needs a graphical overhaul....

Ape Escape: On the Loose

Strengths: Crisp graphics, simple gameplay, some bonus minigames

Weakness: Reduced control scheme from the original, minigames aren't that great

As the other handheld has begun to recycle N64 games, lo and behold, the PSP has begun to recycle Playstation games. Thankfully, this one was (and is) relatively good. Ape Escape: On the Loose is a slightly updated version of the original Ape Escape on Playstation. The story, although simple, is fairly charming. One day, an monkey named Specter finds an experimental helmet which gives him super...

Ape Escape: On the Loose

Strengths: +Interesting game, +Gameplay

I didn't really think this game would be quite entertaining BUT I was surely wrong. I actually enjoyed playing this game quite a bit. This is a great game for all age groups and would recommend adding it to your PSP game collection.

Ape Escape: On the Loose

Strengths: Original Ape Escape game for PS1; Sharp graphics; monkeys!!!; Solid platforming fun.

Weakness: Original Ape Escape game for PS1, heh; Frustrating camera; no real extras added to PSP; lack of dual analog sticks weakens controls; no graphical update at all, just a cleanup.

Ah, Ape Escape! How I loved thee when you were first released for the PS1! Dual stick, monkey-catching craziness! We had some good times. I still own you, for those lonely nights where nothing will soathe my soul but to capture some time-traveling, no good monkeys! With such fond memories of Ape Escape, I purchased Ape Escape: On the Loose for PSP as my first title. At first, I was welcomed back...

Ape Escape: On the Loose

Ape Escape is the first platformer for the PSP, so in a way, it sets the example for the other games to follow. With a great gameplay experience, and everything you'd expect from a platformer and more, it definitely sets a large example for others to follow in! It has many enemies, vast levels, monkeys with different difficulties to capture, puzzles, and the list continues to go on. The music is...

Seven PSP Games Reviewed

Most of us aren't wealthy enough to have our own personal Bubbles the monkey, but you might be able to afford the next best thing - a handheld filled with ornery primates. Thanks to Sony's slight tinkering with the PSOne's original Ape Escape, these simians have gotten a new lease on a life.

Ape Escape: On the Loose

When Ape Escape was first introduced to the original PlayStation crowd it offered loads of platform gaming fun featuring a spiky haired kid attempting to catch some really crafty monkeys that were pretty tough to catch. Call me crazy-bananas but I’m a sucker for a good platformer and anything with a monkey in it, so a game that combines both is pure gold in my opinion. So imagine my surprise...
