Dragon's Lair 3D: Return to the Lair

Strengths: being a 1080i pioneer in gaming

Weakness: lack of complex textures. physics choppy. controls not as precise as graphics.

I was very disappointed when I first turned this game on. It looked like a first gen PS2 game until....POOF!... the 1080i kicked in. The menus and FMVs are all 480p (but look like 480i); the actual game is 1080i. The graphics are a strange mix of old and new. The aesthetic from the original LD game is fabuously preserved (the same cool cut-scenes for death, etc), and the high detail of 1080i...

Dragons Lair 3D

Strengths: 1080i support, Widescreen, Incredible Graphics

Weakness: Difficult, non responsive controls

Dragons Lair 3D returns you to the Dragons Lair to rescue Daphne from the evil wizard Mordroc and the dragon Singe. Graphics are now Cel-Shaded, which make for an excellent cartoon presentation. While not as fun as the original, this game is difficult as the player must once again use memorization to pass the boards. While the 1st 2 games were stricly puzzles to solve, this version is more of a...

Dragon's Lair 3D: Return to the Lair

Strengths: Captures the colorful look and feel of the classic arcade game, excellent sound and cel-shaded graphics, 1080i HDTV support

Weakness: Simplistic tale of boy rescuing girl, repetitive combat, limited replay value, including the original Dragon's Lair arcade game would have been nice

Back in the dark ages of videogames (mid-1980s), consumers were amazed by the fluid cartoon-like graphics of Don Bluth's original Dragon's Lair arcade game. What many people didn't realize back then was that they really were just watching a cartoon. A few simple button presses decided which video loop you watched (and whether Dirk the Daring continued on his adventure or died a quick but painful...

Dragon's Lair 3D: Return to the Lair

Strengths: A decent remake of a classic, 1080i HDTV support

Weakness: Clumsy controls, repetitive enemies, several dull and tedious sections

The original arcade version of Dragon's Lair, released more than 20 years ago, was essentially an interactive cartoon, in which you controlled the reactions of the protagonist, Dirk the Daring. In this remake, featuring an HDTV-enhanced cartoonlike presentation, you now have full control over Dirk. Many of the action sequences will be instantly familiar to Dragon's Lair vets. Unfortunately,...

Dragon's Lair 3D: Return to the Lair

Dirk the Daring is back in full 3 – D movement control … and he hasn’t aged a bit in 20 years! As I opened Dragon’s Lair 3-D, I made a stunning discovery. I realized that if I still had every quarter and every dollar that went into the Laserdisc games of the 80’s like Space Ace, Cliffhanger, and of course Dragon’s Lair, I would probably not have to work for a long number of months....
