Grim Grimoire

Strengths: Solid gameplay, art style

Weakness: No game save in long battles

Grim Grimoire is a real-time strategy game that is unique unlike others. The battles are fought on a 2D game board. It has a very complex battle system but it just adds more fun and dynamsics to the gameplay. Although the story shares some similarity with Harry Potter, it is not really a ripoff. The story is still excellent by itself. One problem with the game is that there is no mid-battle game...

GrimGrimoire

Strengths: A wonderful real-time strategy game - a late in the game gem for the aging Playstation 2 system

Weakness: Difficulty can be a bit uneven

Before picking up this game be sure you know what it is. This is not the typical Japanese Role-Playing game (JRPG) that is appears to be from the cover art. While I quite enjoy JRPGs and had thought this was one myself I was quite mistaken. It turns out this game is a real-time strategy game. It is tied together by a story very much in the vein of most Japanese RPGs, but the gameplay is very...

Console Real Time Strategy with a Story that is Part...

Strengths: Pretty Vanillaware artwork. Gateway RTS. RTS for the casual gamer. Simple RTS concepts.

Weakness: Console controls do not work well. Pretty short game. No unlockable rewards other than a higher difficulty level for beating the game. Simplified RTS concepts can limit strategic gameplay.

GrimGrimoire is Japan’s attempt at creating an RTS with an anime feel. You are Lillet Blan, a witch, who arrives at the prestigious school of magic where chaos almost immediately ensues. Like all magically themed stories, the goal is to possess the ultimate artifact, in this case, the Philosopher’s Stone. The faculty and classmates (some Harry Potter archetypes) at the school serve as your...

JRTS

Strengths: Tight controls

Weakness: No mid-battle save!

GrimGrimoire is a good example of what a console RTS can do, surprising that it was put together by a Japanese development company. Taking some of the usual trappings of fantasy and combining them with their typical outstanding art into a real-time strategy game, Vanillaware has crafted something that, if nothing else, serves as a fine example for other developers. However, battles in...

GrimGrimoire

Strengths: Impressive visuals and gameplay

Weakness: Hard to find in stores

GrimGrimoire is a strategy game published by NIS America, the maker of Disgaea and Atelier Iris series. The game has impressive visuals with 2D based graphics. Gameplay is a mix of real time strategy and RPG elements. It's incredible. I was hooked after a short session of playing, thinking it's just another old-school type of RPG. The story has a strong resemblance to Harry Potter - a student...

A Fresh Real-Time Strategy Game

Strengths: Innovative Battle System, Graphics

Weakness: Long Battles Without Mid Battle Saves

Grim Grimoire is a real-time strategy game unlike any other. You play as a student learning magic at a magic school much like the Harry Potter movies and after about a week of school some bad mages end up going psycho and killing most of the people at school not including Lillet Blan, the character you play as. After that you will end up reliving the first few days of school much like the movie...

Dragons, Elves and Magic: GG does Side-scrolling...

Strengths: Excellent sprite-based 2-D graphics, Unique gameplay mix of Real Time Strategy (RTS)and RPG elements

Weakness: Tricky use of your troops in battle, derivative storyline initially (though it gets better and more unique)

Don't miss out on this incredible and unique RTS-RPG. In the game you command an army of magical creatures RTS style but on a 2-D game board unlike usual RTS fare. And the story plays out like a traditional RPG with magic and questing. Vanillaware, the developer of the also stunning Odin Sphere cranked up the creative power for this art-in-motion game. The aesthetics are consistently marvelous....

Sherry Potter and the Grimoire of Secrets

Strengths: Beautiful Graphics, Wonderful Storyline and Characters, Laugh out loud funny at times, Decent Strategic Gameplay

Weakness: Boring Map Design, Gameplay becomes simple once a few overpowered units are obtained

This is the kind of strategy title that consoles need to see. The RTS genre is a staple of PC gaming, and there are a few distinct reasons why (keyboard, ease of internet play, high resolution). The lateset genre consoles are capable of working with these types of games, but the older generation needs some different: this type of game. The gameplay involves collecting resources, building units,...

Great Game!

Strengths: Interesting style of animation and its a real time strategy game on a console!

Weakness: None except its very difficult to find a copy in stores.

I was pretty skeptical at first what type of strategy game would succeed on a console, but after about half an hour I was sold. The graphics was impressive for a special type of two dimensional cel shading and control was user friendly with unused buttons on the controller as hotkeys instead of scrolling through the menu. This is a perfect gift for those who enjoy games from NIS America.

Anything but Grim.

Strengths: Great visuals. Great Gameplay. greta Story. Best to call it Great Greatmore.

Weakness: None

After reading the reviews, I didn't know what to expect from Grim Grimoire. I knew it had a strategy component but I wasn't sure how. Well, it's kind of a unit tactics thing. But it's great. Great battles and characters and great gameplay. You ahve to play it for yourself to try it. Buy it!

GrimGrimoire

I love Command & Conquer. Let me say it loud and clear. But I haven’t been excited by the abundance of C&C clones that have come out of the real-time strategy genre. Nearly every RTS is set in war times – past, present, or futuristic fiction. They follow the same path set by EA’s classic, apparently too afraid to venture off into their own unique territory. I’m also upset by the genre’s...
