Children Of Mana: To suck, or not to suck?

Strengths: The realisticness of the fighting is one of the first things that came into mind. Ugh, it's so awesome. It's not just selecting "attack" and "lighting" from the spell menu.

Weakness: I think there should be 2 boys and 2 girls to choose from, not 3 boys and 1 girl. I'm a girl, so...

Everyone says this game sucks, but I absolutely love it. Sure, the plots a little bit boring, but the fighting experience is so great, it makes me want to jump right into the game and slash right through that beast! Maybe people just like to write bad reviews. I don't know. Even if it's not what expected for the series, it's still so fun! (The flail weapon rocks.) Furthermore, the graphics are...

Children of Mana

Strengths: Solid dungeon crawler for the DS, great graphics for the DS

Weakness: Doesn't live up the expectations of the "Mana" name

Children of Mana takes the "Mana" franchise in yet another direction. The original classic (Secret of Mana) was made a long time ago on the Super NES. Since then there has been a mildly disappointing Game Boy Advance entry. This one is better than that one for sure. On its own it is a good game, though people looking for a true sequel to the original may be disappointed. This game is a true...

Children of Mana

Strengths: quick learning curve

Weakness: not a pick up and play title, one dimensional hack and slash

This is my first Mana title and I picked this one up after reading about the previous versions to overall good reviews. After playing a few dungeons, it becomes a bit old where all you’re doing is slogging through dungeons to get to the other side. Dying or leaving the dungeon for supplies is really bad, the dungeons reset themselves so you have to hack and slash the levels you finished all...

Ho-hum dungeon crawler

Strengths: Graphics look great

Weakness: Repetitive gameplay; weak story and dialogue

As someone who had played (and loved) the original Secret of Mana on the Super Nintendo as well as Legend of Mana on the Playstation, I had high hopes for Children of Mana. Another Mana game from SquareEnix? Seemed like a no-brainer to me. Unfortunately, I ended up sorely disappointed. Although the graphics were a high point, the poor gameplay really dragged the game down. On the surface, it...

Well, it's a randomized dungeon crawl!

Strengths: If you are the type to like random dungeon crawls, then here's one with Mana trappings.

Weakness: You may expect the SNES Mana... and this isn't it. If you arn't a random dungeon crawler fan, you may get bored.

So, you really liked playing that Mana game on the SNES all those years ago? And you think that this DS game might give you the same thrill? Sorry, to disapoint you! This isn't that game! It's one of those random dungeon crawler RPGs. And that's cool if you like that sort of thing (and I do.) You can go on missions and cast magic with elementals and get cool loot. The fun is in the crawl! It's...

Children of Mana DS

Strengths: Graphics, sound, gameplay

Weakness: Not as good as other Mana games

Children of Mana is part of the World of Mana series. It is a 2D PRG on the Nintendo DS platform. The game features four playable characters, each with their own storyline in the gameplay. Graphics is of the old RPG school but it's still amazing given it's on the DS platform. The audio is great and really has the stereo feel to it. The combat system is similar to that from the same series. All in...

Decent RPG game, but nothing great

Strengths: "Cute" graphics

Weakness: Boring

The graphics in Children of Mana are "cute," so I immediately thought it was more of a child's game. I liked having the ability to choose my own character and strengths, but wish there was more of a variety. The game is very basic and, as another reviewer said, probably more of an entry game for people just starting to play role playing games. There wasn't enough action to make the game very...

Children of Mana, not men!

Strengths: Focused on combat and looks good on the DS.

Weakness: Dull and repetative gameplay.

The problem with bringing back games from years ago for a new generation of platforms is that sometimes it's better the game was left in the past. Children of Mana is a perfect example of this. In the past it may have been a good game. But now it feels dull and boring. Combat is repetative hack and slash. The story is dull to non-existant. Overall it's not that great a game. Maybe it was some...

Standing on its own, it's an excellent game

Strengths: graphics, depth of play

Weakness: hack and slash gameplay can wear thin after awhile

While I have not played Secret of Mana myself, I see a lot of people talk about it and try to compare this game to that... but from what I understand, it's not exactly a fair comparison because this game is a completely different style of play. Speaking as someone who compares the game to nothing, and judges it on its own merit, I think it's a great title. While the game may lack depth in the...

Children of Mana

Strengths: Nice graphics

Weakness: No party members, boring gameplay

Secret of Mana for the SNES is one of my favorite games ever. However, all 'Mana' games since with the possible exception of Seiken Densetsu 3 have been disappointing. Children of Mana is also dissapointing. Despite having beautiful sprites and the world of mana, the game lacks in the gameplay department. If you play alone, you don't get any party members. The story is lackluster, and the game...
