Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth II

Strengths: Good controls for a console RTS

Weakness: Framerate slowdown

Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth II is a very adequete console real-time strategy game. The controls can be picked up fairly quickly and it really shows that this type of game can succeed on the consoles. I've never been that great at these games, but the Lord of the Rings characters and story intrigued me and I had a good time with this game. Unfortunately, a lot of the achievements...

Solid stragegy on the 360

Strengths: graphics, good controls for a console RTS

Weakness: can suffer major slowdown when armies are large, half of the achievements are online only

I've stayed away from console RTS games in the past because they normally don't look or feel anything like their PC counterparts. That's not the case with BME2. This game looks and plays impressively on the 360. The controls make it easy to select units by type, area, or just grab everyone on the screen. Menus and such are also well designed and it's easy to find what you're looking for. The...

Good RTS on a console?

Strengths: An RTS that finally works on a console

Weakness: Doesn't do anything new with the genre, what's with the 705 total achievements

Overall this is a very solid game. I am a big Real Time Strategy (RTS) fan, but rarely get to play them because my PC is so old. However, EA has done a great job bringing the RTS genre over to the 360 with LOTR. With a campaign for both good and evil, plus online play this game is sure to provide you with an endlessly enjoyable experience.

LoTR BFME

Strengths: - Great console version RTS game - Good use of the Lord of the Rings license

Weakness: - Slowdown can occur during heavy battle scenes

The last RTS game i've played is Age of Empires 2. Being a big fan of the LoTR franchise , I picked up this game to try out a console version of a RTS. I was fairly impressed. It makes very good use of the license for Lord of the Rings, using the creatures as army grunts, etc. The graphics are great, and you really get the feel of an epic scale battle when things get rolling. However, at that...

Lord Of The Rings: Battle For Middle Earth II (Xbox...

Strengths: Good graphics and sound, good control scheme, good online multiplayer

Weakness: Graphical slowdown issues, PC controls better

Lord Of the Rings: Battle For Middle Earth II is a port of the PC title with the same name, bringing a RTS game to the Xbox 360. The game looks great and sounds great, though with numerous items on-screen, there can be a bit of graphical slowdown. The controls for the game are good for a console controller for a RTS, though any keyboard/mouse combination would be easier to use for a RTS. The...

Battle for framerates.

Strengths: Looks great. Good translation from PC to console. Great gameplay.

Weakness: Framerate issues.

Battle for Middle Earth is a good strategy game for the 360. More and more strategy games are making it to that console since they're easier to convert to a 360 from a PC. However, the pot here has soem framerate issues. About the same as if you were running the pc verion on a slow computer. But otherwise its a faithful port. It looks good, the game plays well, and the controls are great. There's...

Lord of the Rings Battle for Middle Earth II

Strengths: Finally decent controls for a console real-time strategy game

Weakness: Control still not as perfect as on PC, some long load times and slowdown

This is a port of the PC game and as such the controls will never be as precise as using a PC mouse. However, EA did an admirable job making this game control fairly well for a console real-time strategy game. The graphics are good, and the units are varied as are the missions. The game makes good use of the Tolkien license with some characters above and beyond what everyone knows from the...

RTS with promise

Strengths: Nice controls for a console RTS, Impressive Online play, Various Factions to choose

Weakness: Occasional framerate issues, Average graphics, Repetitive singleplayer gameplay

This game proves that an RTS can not only be played on console but enjoyed as well. The controls are pretty well laid out & sometimes you will forget that you are playing on a console(& not PC). Single player campaigns can be a bit of drag at times with repetitive actions getting you through but on line play is quite fascinating. So if you don't have xbox live, then consider again before buying...

LOTR: BFME 2

Strengths: excellent graphics

Weakness: lags sometimes

Lord of the Rings Battle for Middle Earth 2 has a really good storyline based on the trilogy. It has decent multiplayer but at times it can lag. It also has a pretty good control layout. It's fun to play. You can choose between two campaigns Good or Evil. Overall LOTR:BFME 2 is a pretty decent RTS game.

Great console RTS with a drawback or two...

Strengths: Graphics, sound effects, music

Weakness: Control

While EA did a stunning job bringing this over the the 360, the controls, while not too bad, still don't seem to work on the controller. I don't blame EA for this at all however. Microsoft needs to make a mouse for the 360, especially with more big-ticket RTS games on the way. Aside from that one drawback, this game is simply amazing. Even in non-HD, it looks amazing, but in HD, it really shines....

The Lord of the Rings, The Battle for Middle-earth II

Few sagas are as perfect for the real-time strategy genre as The Lord of the Rings. Large-scale battles, impeccable worlds, nearly impenetrable fortresses – these are the computer-animated beauties that entertained viewers in between its wonderful story segments. It was only a matter of time before those elements were lifted from the movie and transported to a deep, exciting strategy game. Sure...
