Japanese Military Pinball

Strengths: Creative and innovative design

Weakness: Overly complex controls, sharp learning curve

Odama is a game that could benefit from the refinement of a sequel. The initial outing showed some great ideas for a new game mechanic, combining standard controls with voice-commands. Essentially a game of strategic pinball, you attempted to overcome an enemy army with an army of your own... aided (or hindered) by a giant pinball. The control could be very difficult to get a handle on, but a few...

Odama

Strengths: A bold, unique new concept from Nintendo

Weakness: Execution of said concept is somewhat disappointing - graphics and framerate suffer, mic use frustrating

Odama is a microphone-controlled pinball war battle game. Those 3 main game concepts mashed up in one make this an intriguing title. You control the Odama (a giant ball) in pinball like fashion while also controlling your ground forces with the microphone. You are attempting to defeat the enemy forces across several stages. That's all there is to it, but it needs to experienced to fully...

Great Idea But The Execution Falls Abit Short

Strengths: Innovative Concept

Weakness: Graphics, Short, Hit Detection At Times.

Odama is a pinball game with real time strategy throw in over the pinball boards with a Feudal Japan type theme to the game. Odama is an interesting mix for a game that has never been done before but it falls somewhat short without more work put into the game to polish it up. The first thing noticed while playing it is that the graphics ain't as good as most GameCube games and could even be...

A Novel Idea

Strengths: Strange but appealing gameplay

Weakness: Steep learning curve

To my knowledge Odama represents the first fusion of pinball and real-time strategy. It works, too, though the learning curve is extremely steep and the challenge level is extremely high. The voice commands work surprisingly well, and the pinball action is spot-on. Recommended for those looking for something different or for a challenge.

Odama

Strengths: different than other games

Odama is a RTS/pinball game that takes place on a battlefield. You give commands to your army using the microphone. You control the Odama(ball) up the battlefield using the flippers. Odama is definately different than most RTS and pinball games but once you get used to giving commands and controlling the ball it somewhat enjoyable for a while.

Stange...yet interesting

Strengths: Something completely new

Weakness: Needs a few fixes here and there

This game has you using a microphone to direct your troops and such. It's a very interesting concept but it could have been implemented better. If you can find this cheap, then I'd say go ahead and buy it. It's interesting enough of a game to give it a try.

Marches to the beat of a different drum

Strengths: Interesting use of microphone and bongos

Weakness: Microphone can be unresponsive, high difficulty

What do you get when you combine pinball with an RTS? Odama, that's what. While flipping a giant ball around the fields, like pinball, you also have to use the included microphone to issue orders to your troops. Unfortunately, said orders do not always translate exactly as they should, and as such the frustration level can get pretty high. Also, you can have a buddy use the Donkey Konga bongos,...

Very Unique Concept, but Controls could be better

Strengths: Innovative Concept. Pretty art

Weakness: Use of mic often seems unresponsive

Feudal Samurai Warlords + PINBALL...you have to give this game points for originality. Odama is essentially a pinball game set on a battlefield in old wartorn Japan. In the game your command your ranks, position them on the battlefield, and launch a giant mystical ball to help crush the enemies. Although this combination sounds bizzare, maybe even silly, the game isn't meant to be taken all that...

odama

Strengths: Totally unique game

Weakness: Voice commands aren't as specific as hoped.

One look at this game art and you know you are viewing the type of game that has not been done before. Pinball? Been there. RTS game? Yup. Samurai? Sure. Throw them all in the pot and mix? Hmmmmm. I'm a fan of the eclectic(Katamari Damacy anyone?) so when i saw this in a clearance bin I took the plunge. It comes with a microphone to issue commands to your troops which is another interesting...

Sometimes the total is less than the sum of its...

Strengths: Unique strategy/pinball hybrid, voice command support, convincing samurai presentation

Weakness: Punishing difficulty, frustrating controls, weak visuals

Developer Vivarium should be applauded for thinking outside the bounds of traditional game play genres. They've taken a real-time strategy game (with voice command support for your troops) and put a pinball game on top of the battle field. It's an interesting hybrid, but it's not quite as much fun as I had hoped it would be. Rather than using voice command to control individual troop units, you...
