I really liked the art and atmosphere of this game. Done in a "Tim Burton"-like art style combined with a cute story and funny voice acting really helps set this game apart from similar platforming games.
I found the in-game training area really helpful in mastering the easy to use controls, and Sr Daniel's extensive selection of animations always keeps the game fresh.
The game was easy to play but made more difficult by a camera that was difficult to control. It can become difficult to hit targets using the camera, however game does provide a limited targeting system to help out. Also the fame rate drops a bit when allot is on-screen but it does not happen very often.
Overall a short but very rewarding game.
Strengths: Cool storyline, many different weapons, great FMV cutscenes
Weakness: Short game unless you're a completionist, some camera angle issues on some levels/during combat
I loved Medievil on the original PS and I was very happy to see that the PSP had gotten a port. In this game, you play Daniel Fortesque, a hapless would-be hero who is mistakenly believed to have defeated the evil necromancer Zarok at the cost of his own life. In fact, he bungled it and his heroism was a complete misconception/fabrication. When Zarok rises again to conquer the kingdom of Gallowmere, Daniel is also brought back to 'life' and has a chance to put right what once went wrong (cue Quantum Leap music).
The game features a variety of different melee and ranged weapons that can be used. Each one has a weak-quick attack and a strong-slow attack. Weapons can also be charged for a powerful blow at the expense of the time needed to charge them. By killing enemies, you can fill your chalice of souls and when it's full, you gain access to the Hall of Heroes where you will be bequeathed additional weapons.
In my opinion, one of the best parts of Medievil is its quirky sense of humor. Each of the weapon presentation scenes has its own FMV and the dialogue is often hilarious. The levels are also quirkily designed with haunted pumpkin patches, demonic churches, dragon's caves, etc.
IF there's a downside to the game, it's the camera angles. It's often hard to twist the darn thing in the direction you need it to be in and attacking enemies without actually running into them is sometimes a matter of guesswork. You sometimes spend a lot of time running around in circles until you can pinpoint exactly where the creature attacking you is and get a good runup to whack it. This can often cause premature death until you get used to it and the frustration IMO, is well offset by the great storyline, videos, audio, and thematic sense of humor in the game. It always gave me a very Nightmare Before Christmas feel and that's one of my favorite movies.
I really recommend this to anyone who enjoyed the game on the playstation or those with a quirky sense of humor. The gameplay itself might not be perfect, but the other elements more than make up for it.
Strengths: Gameplay is reminscent of the PS1
Graphics look good on the PSP
Weakness: Game is kind of short
I picked this up because I am a fan of the playstation 1 edition of this franchise.
The gameplay is goofy and the animation is great. I don't have any friends with a PSP, so didn't get a chance to try out multiplayer - but the list of available mini games looked like they would be a blast.
I finished the game in a few hours, and the replayability is limited. I would recommend this more as a rental, or a cheap buy - but still recommended however you play it.

Back in the heydays of the original PlayStation, I remember playing a demo of a unique action-adventure game that went by the name of MediEvil. I thought that the game had a really unique look and feel to it, but I never got the chance to play the full game or the sequel that was released a couple of years later. Now that the PlayStation Portable is on the block, the developers at Cambridge...
