One of the greates adventure rpg

Strengths: Great story and good graphics

Weakness: You cant change the course of your characters.

This games comes from the people who developed for the PS1 called Threads of Fate. Which consisted in a two main characters story lines. This game fully develops the action rpg wich is very unique of this series. This game has good battle development and leveling attributes. I consider this one of the game must have if you like action rpgs.

Radiata Stories

Strengths: Fun action-battler RPG with 2 different story paths and great graphics

Weakness: Fairly linear story and environments

Radiata Stories is an often overlooked game that I think is a solid RPG for the Playstation 2. The combat is real time and the monsters are visible in the game world (no random battles). The graphics are excellent for the PS2. Part way through the game you have to choose one of 2 paths. This is a fairly clever device as it allows for a second play through with substantially different content. Yet the first playthrough is not overwhelming as it clocks in right around 30 hours. This is a bit short compared with most RPGs, but sometimes that isn't a bad thing. You can always play through the second storyline if you want more.

Much like in the Suikoden series, you can recruit a great number of the characters you encounter in the story. This provides a fun sidequest to the main story. Otherwise, though, the story is fairly linear. Likewise, the landscapes you travel through are fairly linear too, with mostly one single path to travel as you go from one part of the story to the next. You are free to travel to previous locations, however, to recruit characters.

Radiata Stories is definitely a solid RPG and a nice change of pace from some of the long, blockbuster RPGs on the system. You can play through one storyline in a fairly short amount of time and get a sense of accomplishment without needing to invest several weeks (or months) of play. Yet if you crave more gameplay you can restart and play through the other storyline.

Radiata Stories

Strengths: Fun RPG

Weakness: Weak battle system

Radiata Stories is a fun and entertaining RPG from Square Enix. The story is a bit short but it's fun and engaging. The graphics and music is another great point in the game.

The weak part of the game is the battle system. It's basically a dumb-down version of that of the Star Ocean 3: Till the end of TIme. It is ok, but is a less challenging version.

Radiata Stories

Strengths: Fun, short RPG. Graphics.

Weakness: Just another typical RPG

Radiata Stories is another one of those typical RPG's we see nowadays... save the world, win over the princess, and listen to quirky japanese dailogue while you do it. Nonetheless, the game does play different enough from the others that it warrants a quick playthrough. Luckily, the game is fairly short, clocking in at around 20-25 hours. The battle system is stupid, but easy to understand. Overall, I'd say if you are looking for an RPG and have already played through some of the more popular ones, then give this one a try as you wait for the next big thing to come out.

Radiata Stories

Strengths: Great RPG, graphics and music.

Weakness: battle system

Radiata Stories is a decent RPG from Square-Enix. It has great graphics and music but a subpar battle system similar to Star Ocean 3. It is nothing revolutionary. However, the great story is the real gem in this game, and the tons of characters featured in it.

Radiata Stories is an usual RPG. It's nothing revolutionary about it. Still, it's worth playing for the story and the nice music.

Somewhat Familiar

Strengths: beautiful graphics, lots of colorful characters

Weakness: the time system in the video game world, very simple battles

If you're looking for an epic rpg like Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest, Radiata Stories is not one.

The one thing that it does have going for it is the quirky dialogue, its distinct art style, and the large world full of characters that you can recruit. While the story is cliche - save the world type - the dialogue was quite offbeat. Since it sets this mood early in the game the dialogue doesn't feel forced like in other japanese rpgs and keeps the game entertaining. And the graphics are simply gorgeous; they look hand drawn and have a water color effect.

The bad - the real time battles, where you run around along with your computer controlled allies hitting enemies, aren't very fun. It's a dumb downed version of another rpg, Star Ocean: Til the End of Time. And one thing I couldn't stand about Radiata Stories is that it has an in game time cycle/clock. This means that you can only meet characters at certain times or that key actions are forced to a specific time. Example: You talk to a bartender during the night and he tells you that thieves have been stealing his supplies during the day. In order to catch the thieves you have to revisit the bar during day time hours. The clock doesn't really do anything except force you to waste time wandering around until that time (although you can set your character to go to sleep which fast forwards the clock) and slows down the pacing of the game.

Radiata Stories

Strengths: Nice RPG, graphics, music

Weakness: battle system

This game has great graphics and music. This is one of the RPG games that fans will like. The battle system isn't that bad. Some might not like and some will like. But hardcore fans probably won't like this type of battle system. The great thing about this is that there are tons of characters. Pick this up if you can find it for cheap.

Capable rpg

Strengths: No random enemy encounters, kicking stuff, solid graphics and music

Weakness: time mechanics, jack

Being able to kick stuff is a great play mechanic in rpgs. It satisfies my dual desires of being able to interact with an otherwise static world and killing time when you are wandering around. Couple with a lack of random encounters (you initiate battles) and Radiata has a great foundation for my personal tastes. Unfortunately the story is rather forgettable and I never got attached to jack. It also is disruptive having to wait for time to pass- I do enough of that in reality. On the plus side, it only took a bit more than 20 hours on play through, which I appreciate. 60-100 hour rpgs with hours of pointless grinding and backtracking have never been that enjoyable. Overall Radiata comes close to my rpg wants, but never quite gets everything right.

Radiata Stories

Strengths: fun, lots of characters to recruit, choice of paths

Weakness: dumbed down Star Ocean 3 battle system

Radiata Stories features a dumbed down version of SO3's battle system. However, it works pretty well, but takes some challenge out of the game. The game has an overworld where all the characters follow routines depending on the time, and you can recruit pretty much all the characters. The best part of the game is you can choose your path, however, I wish that there was one path that was clearly good and one clearly evil (I think there is one clearly good path but the game will make the choice you pick justified.) Great game, and it can be found cheap, so pick it up!

Great fun RPG play

Strengths: Really funny, engaging story, great environments

Weakness: Battle system a little too simple, nothing is revolutionary

Radiata stories isn't one of those RPGs out there that's meant to blow the roof off of anything. It's a little unassuming, but that's where all its charm comes from.

I enjoyed this game a lot. The story was great because the game wasn't afraid to make fun of itself or games of its ilk. The graphics reflect this, as they are in a nice cartoony style.

You play Jack Russell who joins the Radiata Knights in hopes to save the world. Like I said, it sounds generic but it's done with a lot of humor.

Over time you make tons of friends and they can join you into battle. The most disappointing part about the game is the battle system. You can bring up to 4 into play, but what it amounts to mostly is button mashing and doing a few special moves. But the game is charming enough that its okay.

I found the game environments to be very cool, although sometimes a bit sparse. But they were always entertaining to be in.

In the end Radiata Stories isn't a game that will blow you away, but it will definitely entertain you a lot.

A truely modern rpg!

Strengths: Graphics and battle system.

Weakness: Generic story

I really enjoyed the game. The graphics where supered, vibrant colors and good character design. Plus it uses the Star Ocean 3 battle system so there is plenty of action and strategy. If found the story to be very generic and not very creative, however it does have some good humor that really helped me play through the, sometimes very long, cutscenes. It is cool to be able to recruit so many different characters but it would have been much better to control more than just one characters.

An excellent RPG and anyone should enjoy.

Radiata Stories

Strengths: Great Story, lots of characters to recruit, hack and slash type RPG, not too long

Weakness: recruiting characters is a pain

Radiata Stories is one of those RPG's that tries to break the traditional, "I'm off to save the world and rescue the princess" storylines. The story in this is kind of quirky, but fun and intriguing. The battle system pulls away from the menu based system and the length of the game is not dragged out for 100+ hours. There are 2 main story lines in the game, so 2 playthroughs are required to get the whole story. However, each playthrough only requires ~20-25 hours, so you're still looking at less time than a traditional RPG.

One of the fun parts of Radiata Stories was recruiting characters. There are over 100 characters that can be recruited, each with their own benefits and downfalls. Creating the perfect team was a compulsion for me. The only problem with this is that recruiting many of the characters can be a pain since you amy only be able to recruit them at certain places and times.

Overall, I really enjoyed this game and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for an RPG that doesn't stick to the traditional mold.

Radiata Stories

As a guy who liked Star Ocean: Till the End of Time more than most, Radiata Stories is a project that I've been anticipating for quite some time. Developed by the same tri-Ace team responsible for the aforementioned Star Ocean , Radiata is, on the surface, what the Suikoden series might have been had Square Enix bankrolled it. While that doesn't mean that players can expect to meet 108 Stars of...

Radiata Stories

Jack Russell is no terrier, or even a terror. He is a young man whose over-confidence and histrionics belie his abilities – at least as he begins his sojourn through the world of Radiata Stories. Radiata Stories is Square Enix’s (and tri-Ace’s) latest entry into the world of minor role play games powered by an imaginative storyline. It follows the tale of Jack Russell, who dreams of...
