Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee

Strengths: Plenty of unlockables, graphics

Weakness: Sound effects

Anybody who has played any of the Hot Shots Golf games for the PS2 will know what is in store for them. Hot Shots Golf puts you in control of a cast of cartoon like characters and tackles increasingly difficult courses.

The greatest feature of the single-player game is an ongoing selection of challenges and tournaments where you can unlock characters, clubs, balls, and accessories for your character. Depending on which character you choose and how often you use that character, you are rewarded with a loyalty bonus which improves some of the character’s stats. Also, characters level up so to speak and their stats increase based off of the accessories that you equip.

The multiplayer option is limited to Ad-hoc mode, so there will not be any online tournaments (like in Hot Shots Golf Fore). Also, the main drawback is the sound effects are pretty bland and so is the background music.

However, the game play is very fun and the courses get increasingly difficult. Based off that feature alone, I would recommend this game.

Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee

Strengths: Great graphics, highly addictive gameplay

Weakness: Can get very difficult

Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee is one of the most addictive games I have ever played. It is an excellent arcade style golf game with fun characters and realistic golf physics. The controls are easy to pick up and play, but it takes quite a bit of practice to master the later courses. There are a ton of unlockables that will keep you busy for hours and hours. These include new characters, clothes, clubs, balls, and courses. The graphics and sound are excellent and it is just a blast to play. The only downside of the game is that it gets extremely difficult toward the end. It's worth picking this title up for the sheer amount of replay value that you will get out of this one. You'll be playing it for months to come.

golf game of the year

Strengths: Its not a game you will beat overnight. plenty of tricks and characters to choosew from.

Weakness: the soundtrack

I love this game! It was a game that you will get your money's worth. Most games you can beat in a few days; however, this takes some time and skill. I hope they come out with another one so I can get that one too.

Golf Mania!

Strengths: Funny looking characters, easy gameplay, fun even if you hate golf, and the fact you can win different clothing to customize yourself with.

Weakness: Could use some more coureses.

One of the best games out there for the PSP right now. So if you do not own this game and have a PSP, then you need to get to the store ASAP and buy this game. It is so fun even for you non golf fans out there. The gameplay is very easy to learn but can get diffcult at times. There is so much stuff to win that the game has endless replay value.

Hot Shots for PSP!

Strengths: *Zany characters + golf = fun* - *Lots of replayability* - *Multiplayer support*

Weakness: *Can be frustratingly hard at times*

Hot Shots Golf is a strong title in PSP's lineup. This game should please even the non-golf genre gamers.
For fans of getting every little last unlockable in a game , you'll have a grand old time with this one. There's a 'Challenge' mode to unlock loads of characters and items for these characters.
This game shows off one of the PSP's strongpoints - wireless multiplayer functionality. Nothing beats playing against a friend while going home on the subway!
The game gets bonus points for its ability to let you come back and play again later once you've finished it. It still holds its fun quality.
If you own a PSP, you should own this game!

Hot Shots Golf Open Tee

Strengths: Wonderful graphics, very fun and addicting play. Simple to learn, hard to master.

Weakness: Could use a little more variety in courses, becomes much harder at higher levels. Better customization options for character upgrade would be nice.

This is the one must have PSP game and has gotten by far the most play on my system (of the 6 games that I have).

While I'm not a golfer and have never played realistic golf games before (like the Tiger Woods series), I have been a big fan of Mario Golf. If you like Mario Golf then you will probably like this game. It is a little less gimmicky than the Mario games, but still maintains the same addictive qualities.

With each match that you play as you progress through the ranks you not only upgrade the character you are playing with, but unlock everything from hats to better clubs to new courses to new characters, and even unique items like a fox tail. Even when you achieve a certain level the unlockables keep you going back to the lower ones to finish up all the available matches.

There is another level of achievement in obtaining the very hard to get medals from doing things such as getting a hole-in-one or a flag shot. The game automatically records difficult shots such as chip-in birdies. You can also manually record any shot you like and play it back later. This is a very nice feature.

The game is very easy to pick up and play. The swing control is intuitive but difficult to master. This becomes a problem in the higher levels (Bronze and above) when you start playing on courses with many out of bounds areas. Overall, though, the game maintains a nice progression of difficulty, only becoming very difficult right near the end.

Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee as of today this is one of...

Strengths: With tons of replay value this game will have you unlocking clothing and clubs for hours.

Weakness: There are no weaknesses in my opinion.

The graphics in this game are some of the best I have seen on a handheld. The controls are great. The game play is very simple but fun. You have your power shots, different characters and items which all will contribute to your characters appearance and skill level. To unlock different courses you have to collect stars. After collecting enough stars you unlock the next set of levels. Unlocking characters and Items work the same way. You play a match or tournaments and if you win you gain the item.
Overall the game play is very simple but will have you addicted.

Golf for everywhere besides the TV room

Strengths: Beautiful graphics, lots of unlockables, portable 3D golf

Weakness: Console version is superior, unlocking stuff comes VERY slowly

This is one of the best Hot Shots Golf games, period. Nice graphics (even for the PSP) and there is an absolute ton of unlockables... however, there are not nearly as many holes as the console versions, so they decided to make it very time consuming to unlock stuff; prepare to make a hefty time investment in order to see many of the later holes. The load times are also not the greatest, but honestly, for this quality of golf on a handhold, a little waiting is a-ok. Recommended for fans of the genre, and people looking for a title to pour a ton of time into.

Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee

Strengths: replayability, fun, decent graphics

Weakness: putting seems to be guess work

Great game. I play 18 holes while on my lunch break and it helps me get away from the pressures of the day. This game is for both serious golf fans and those not fans of the game at all. I think everyone will have fun playing this game. The only downside in my opinion is the putting. It seems like guess work to me. All in all it is a great game.

Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee

Strengths: The best PSP game available.

Weakness: Absolutely none.

This is by far the best PSP game available. Even if you don't like golf, the arcade like aspects of it means that you don't have to be a golf expert to be able to play well. I'm not a big fan of golf, but I can't get enough of this game.

A very diverse array of characters with PLENTY of customization and unlockables, Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee will be a game that you will be playing for a long time to come.

Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee

Strengths: Very cool graphics and good sound. There are a ton of customizations you can add to the characters(glasses, hats, and clubs).

Weakness: Takes a while to unlock new corses and characters, but it is not not that big a problem

I don't play many golf games, but I heard that HSG was a good golf game even if you don't like golf. I'm not sure if that's the case because I like golf, but this game is very fun, I think it will keep me busy for a long time.

Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee

Strengths: Golf actually fun, great graphics, lots of unlockables, addictive gameplay

Weakness: No online play

Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee is a very fun game! When I first purchased the game, I spent about 2 hours just playing it and trying to unlock as much stuff as I can. The graphics in this game are very nice! This game actually made me believe golf is fun as hard as it is to believe. Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee has a lot of unlockables and a lot of characters that can be customized. Only one weakness to this game is that it does not have online play! This game would be a good game to have online play, but the developers did not put it in. You can however play wireless with up to 8 friends.

Overall, I highly recommend this game! This game is great nonetheless, even without online play.

Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee

Strengths: Lots of replay value, suitable for portable format, SCEA kept the characters from the Japanese version

Weakness: Only 6 courses, no online infrustucture play

Hot Shots Golf Open Tee is recommended for anyone who remotely likes games. You don't need to like golf to fully enjoy this game. I don't like golf and I had a blast with the game. The game only features 6 courses but it makes sure you'll be playing this game for a long time by having you unlock over 200 items in the process and rank up your characters. The game is perfect on the go with tournaments and putting challenges that you can play. If you're a fan of the HSG series, definitely pick this one up. If you don't like golf games, I still recommend it because it is a lot of fun. It is my favorite game on the PSP thus far.

Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee

Strengths: Fun and easy to get into, even with all the golf terms. Great character cusomizations.

Weakness: May be a little too long for some people and steep learning curve.

If you've always wanted to play golf, but thoguht it was a little to hard to play or understand, then Hot Shots for the PSP is your answer. It makes regular golfing a cinch. All you need is a bit of time and practice, and you'll be a pro in no time. With full character cusomization, this game never lacks in character veriety. With over 200 things to unlock, you will be very busy for a long time. Good game, but be prepared to make a long haul of time for this game.

Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee

Strengths: Japanese anime style characters Graphics! Graphics! Graphics! Simple to learn, hard to master game mechanics

Weakness: Hard to master Unforgiving AI small amount of courses no infrastructure WiFi

Hot Shots gold is not simply a cute version of golf. In between the aesthetical presentation lies a refined and robust golf simulation. Everything from the sound of a perfect launch, to the clink of a birdie in a hole fills you with satisfaction. These little things add to the immersion factor of the game. The graphics are simply wonderful. They have a personality to them, not overproduced. Think Warcraft 3 art style--cuter and less jaggy. Usage of colors very liberal--makes this game very appealing to just look at.

The single player mode is tedious. Often at the beginning, you will get tired from earning meaningless accessories. I really don't have a need to own 3 pairs of sunglasses. Some people might like to accessorize their character but I would gladly trade it in for more characters and courses.

Multiplayer rocks if you have PSP gamers nearby. Otherwise, wait for the next version of Hot Shots as it should definitely have internet WiFi.

Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee

Strengths: Hot Shots Golf we know and love; Decent graphics; Deep single player mode; awfully addicting multi-player modes; customizable characters.

Weakness: Little more graphical flair would have been nice; unlocking items can get monotous; no internet play, even if just uploading high scores or trading items; More unlockable characters.

Hot Shots Golf. PSP. A match made in heaven.

If my first paragraph above makes you giddy: stop reading and go buy this game. You are just like me, you really did not need anyone to tell you this game was going to be amazing for you to buy it. The rest of you, well, stick around, heh.

Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee is exactly what your PSP needs. A simple, yet deep golf game that does not need all the "real life" garabage to be authetic or "good." This is the kind of golf game that anyone can pick up and be playing in 10, 15 minutes...and enjoying it!

The first two courses are simple, generic golf courses that are easy enough to deal with, but have enough challenges to keep you from mastering them in three or four rounds. From then on out, the courses get much more difficult, just as the matches and tortuments get much more difficult as you progress in rank in 1-player mode. Don't be fooled by ho easy the first couple ranking are - things do get harder, competetion tougher, as the game goes on.

Unlocking characters and accessories so you can dress up your golfer your own special way is fun and oddly addicting. You'll be ready to set the PSP down and then some cool new item will appear and you'll have to play "one more round" to unlock it...then hope nothing else cool pops up! As I said in the weakness part ahead, the only problem with this is that I wish there was more characters to put all this stuff on, especially since many of the characters, mostly the girls, really lack diversity among each other.

Multiplayer is as even more fun than one player. One person creates a room, the rules and type of game, and then everyone else joins the game and they go from there. Tourtment is the best way to go, since everyone plays each hole together, at the same time. In match play, you have to watch each shot the other person makes, which can get annoying. My biggest complaint here is the lack of multiplayer on one PSP. If you have to each take your turns in match play, why can't you just pass it over to the next person? This seems like such an obvious feature, and it's lack does hurt multiplayer a bit.

But, even with my disappointments with this game, I still cannot set the thing down! I keep playing it, over and over again, trying to unlock new items, courses, characters, hoping I can unlock some more goofy golf clubs (so far I have frying pans and umbrellas!). For those of you who have to have it as real as possible, the hardcore golfers, you may not enjoy the over the top, cutesy Hot Shots Golf. Luckily for you, they have Tiger Woods Golf as well. But, for everyone else, jump on the bandwagon now and watch your free time disappear!

Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee Review

Open Tee is about as fun as golf gets. The stroke play is good for a slightly more traditional game, but the challenge mode is fast paced and pure fun. Although you’ll basically be doing the same thing a lot, the slow but sure increase in challenge, ability, and characters will keep things fresh. It manages to be both fun and easy to play, while still retaining the depth of controls and physics...

OK, here's the deal, when I bought my PSP I looked at the coming soon titles and saw that Sony was going to put out a PSP exclusive edition of its stellar golf series.
