Star Wars Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike

Strengths: Star Wars fans must apply, great and fun gameplay, good sounds, great graphics, co-op Rogue Leader is lots of fun, great multiplayer

Weakness: Gamecube exclusive

One of the best Star Wars games I've played. Lots of variety in the gameplay, covering in the air, in space and on foot. Definitely covers key areas from the "classic" Star Wars series, and covers them very well.

The gameplay is very well done and very fun to play, either in the single player campaign or in one of the multiple types of multiplayer.

The co-op version of Rogue Leader makes Rogue Leader even more enjoyable, and it's harder as well. A very nice bonus.

Any Star Wars fan should pick this game up without question. Space shooter fans should pick it up as well. Well worth the money.

Star Wars Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike

Strengths: Great game and graphics. Definite fun for the star wars enthusiast.

Weakness: Really none, I love this game.

Great game and graphics. I have most of the star wars games and this is one of the best. Instructions are very easy to read and the action is nonstop. I would definately recommend this game. A1 in my book

Star Warts

Strengths: Great use of Star Wars license. Great graphics and sound. Branching storyline. Lots of challenge and things to do. Terrific multiplayer.

Weakness: Horrible first-person levels. Awkward controls. Often difficult to tell what's going on. High difficulty.

Rogue Squadron II was perhaps one of the most impressive Star Wars games made. This sequel keeps a lot of what worked there, but made some unfortunate additions.

The worst of these is the first-person missions. This game shines when you are flying the various Star Wars vehicles, re-enacting one of the fast and furious space battles seen in the movies. It comes to a screeching halt when the game goes first person.

Control is awful. Visibility is awful. Lock-on is a joke. It's also glitchy, having locked up my Gamecube. It's amazing this stuff ever made it out of beta test.

Back in the actual good parts of the game, the flight engine is showing its age. Control of the vehicles is good, but lacks true acceleration or brakes, favoring a system which doesn't work very well and doesn't feel real at all. The map has been improved slightly to help provide cues as to where you're supposed to be looking, but it's still confusing and easy to get lost.

This would be tolerable if the game weren't so hard. It can be unforgiving with certain missions, and it's frustrating to have to do it again or miss out on a level because you couldn't find that one ship fast enough.

I hate to say it, since this game adds a lot in terms of content and graphics and wow factor, but Rogue Squadron II was more fun.

Pick this one up if you have someone to play with, as the multiplayer is probably the only reason to get this unless you are a die-hard Star Wars fan. It's just not as fun as it should be.

Star Wars Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike

Strengths: Star Wars universe, great graphics, great controls, two-player co-op

Weakness: On foot missions

Star Wars Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike once again tackles vehicle based combat in the original trilogy. This game allows you to recreate some of the most famous battles from the original movies by controlling all of the great vehicles. You get to control, X-wings, speeder bikes, tauntauns and many more. The graphics are absolutely beautiful and the controls are great as well.

The only bad part about the game is the on foot missions. The characters just don't control well enough to make them enjoyable and you have to suffer through these missions in order to get back to the fun vehicle missions.

An amazing thing about this game is that it actually contains a two player co-op version of Rogue Squadron II as well. This could be the definitive Star Wars vehicle combat game.

Star Wars Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike

Strengths: Continues the amazing Star Wars spaceflight missions from Rogue Leader, adds ground vehicle missions

Weakness: The on-foot, ground-based missions are NOT good

Let me preface this review by stating that I think the previous game in this series, Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader is one of the absolute best video games EVER made. In many ways Rebel Strike adds to that amazing gameplay and builds upon it in some places, while also falling flat and disappointing greatly in others.

The space-based missions are stellar as they were in the previous game. There's nothing quite like flying a Star Wars vehicle in near movie-like quality. The controls are responsive and the vehicle handling amazing. As with the first game, the missions are extremely challenging if you want to go for silver or gold medals.

The first major change is the addition of ground vehicle missions, which include being able to pilot AT-ATs and AT-STs. These missions are fun and add unique elements to the original.

The major failing of the game is in the on-foot missions. There are several of these and some are worse than others. In particular, the Dagobah swamp mission is one of the most grueling things to endure, utterly lacking in any fun whatsoever. It is a poorly designed platformer that requires precise timing to get through. You will want to play through this to get the points and unlock the next mission, but that is about it. I nearly broke down when my son accidentally erased my saved game with all the Silver Medals acquired - it meant I'd have to live through this mission again.

And that brings me to the one MAJOR problem with both of the Rogue Squadron games on the Gamecube. It is WAY too easy to erase game saves, thus losing all your mission progress. My 4 year-old son loved playing the games and when selecting a mission the slightest downward tilt of the stick will move it to "erase". Then the default answer is YES, when it should be NO on the dialog that pops up. He erased the saves for both games this way. Given that there were several open slots with no saves in them they shouldn't even allow you to delete one until the others are all full - and the programmer responsible for the default "YES" answer to deleting should be severely punished.

Back to the plus side - the game does also contain a complete two-player cooperative version of Rogue Squadron II. This alone might be reason enough to pick up this game.

Amazing speeder chase

Strengths: Gameplay, graphics, Star Wars feel.

Weakness: On foot portions

The vehicle portions of this game are fantastic. The gameplay from Rogue Leader has been brought into this game, and that's a really good thing. The ATAT levels almost make me buy them as a viable military vehicle, and the speeder chase is simply amazing, capturing the feel and frenzy of the film.

I hesitate to say the best part, but certainly on par with anything else about the game, is a full multiplayer version of Rogue Leader.

This is a beautiful game, theres no getting around it. And the art direction really does scream star wars. While many things more high tech than the original trilogy, nothing is so different in design as to break the star wars feel of the world. The Plant life in the game looks fantastic, very verdant, which is very important for the speeder chase scene.

So what's the dark side of this game? The less said about the on foot portions, the better. However, as bad as they may be, it doesn't drop this game below the level of a must have.

Star Wars Rogue Squadron III

Strengths: Great Story and Graphics

Weakness: Same old Star Wars Story

Rebel Strike is similar to Rogue Squadren II that was released simaltaneously with the Gamecube 4 years ago. The gameplay is good with the usual excellent Star Wars Story behind it, but honestly, how many variations can be made on the same old story. If your a fan of Star Wars, then by all means, pick this up as it is at a bargain price since it was released a few years ago. With great graphics, a good story, and good gameplay, you cant go wrong.

Rogue Squadron III

Strengths: Graphics, Sound, Presentation, Extras, Space gameplay, Multiplayer

Weakness: On foot battles.

Rebel Strike is the third game in the Rogue Squadron series, following successful outings on the Nintendo 64 and Gamecube. The pedigree calls for impeccable graphics, sterling sound and tight spacecraft gameplay. This new outing has all three of those things, plus several new types of gameplay, but are the additions good enough?
Once again Factor 5 outdoes everyone with graphics in a Rogue game. Rogue Squadron III is one of the best looking games out there, even outdoing the masterful graphics of its predecessor. Star Wars has never looked as good in a game as it does in RSIII, an incredible level of detail and flair. The Endor speeder bike levels are a excellent achievement in speed and fidelity. One complaint would be that in some areas the game is too dark and does not offer a brightness correction mode, or any other way of brightening the scenery short of adjusting the tv.
Everything said about the graphics can also be said about the sound and music. Fidelity and quality are tops . Every sound that you in hear in the movies is here, even the wicked sound of Sonic Charges. Voice is also excellent, Dennis Lawson, Wedge in the original trilogy, does voice work, and the rest of the voice work is also great.
Music also lives up to the series and movie standards.
Gameplay in Rebel Strike follows the example set by its series, tight spaced based combat with a few planetary missions. This is the same tight and intense dogfighting of the earlier games only better. The battle of Yavin from Episode VI is recreated in it's entirety, complete with tons of tie fighters, bombers, frigates, Corellian corvettes, and of course, multiple Star Destroyers.
In addition to the space combat RSIII adds speeder bike and on foot missions. The speeder bike missions are quite fast and intense, flying through forests leave little room for error. The on foot missions are where the game stumbles. The missions, which are promising in concept fall through with the execution. The control for these missions or more correctly the camera in combination with slightly loose control leave much to be desired. The on foot missions aren't horrible, but they are so far gone in terms of control compared to the rest of the game that they hurt it. Some extra development time into these missions would have had really helped. As they are now, they aren't up to par.
Factor 5 has chocked the game full of extras and goodies for the determined player. Unlockable ships, cheats and featurettes are all in the games as are several older Star Wars classic games. The game also features an excellent multiplayer mode allowing dogfights and more importantly the entirety of Rogue Squadron II available for 2 players.
Rebel Strike is an excellent game. It has great graphics, sound and value. An excellent multiplayer game, and good single player. The addition of new gameplay types is admirable. If only the on-foot levels had been more polished, the game might have been a true classic. As it is the game is an excellent game and excellent package value. Enough to recommend to anyone, and especially fans.

I sense a disturbance in the Force

Strengths: Still good dogfighting but...

Weakness: ...on ground missions suck Bantha

Oh where oh where did this game go wrong. The on foot stages, that's where. Did you ever play Star Wars Shadow's of the Empire? Cuz these on foot missions are LOADS worse. They just suck all the fun out. One minute, you're having the time of your life shooting down Ties in your X-Wing, but the next, you are on Hoth (AGAIN!) but running around on the ground. Arghh! Still worth at least a rental though.

Star Wars Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike

Strengths: Various aspects of gameplay Familiar world Builds on top of previous titles

Weakness: Scripted sequences can get old Ground fighting is a little too reliant on autoaim

Building on top of an already impressive series of games, Rogue Squadron III puts a smile on my nerdly face. Stars Wars is a great universe and you can't beat blowing some Ties out of the sky. Whats sets this game apart from the prior versions, is the mix of air and ground fighting. Even though the ground fighting(with light guns)
seems to rely heavily on autoaim, that is you just point in the general direction of the enemy and you will hit them(lots of button mashing), it is still an enjoyable experience.
Basic gist of the game is that you go on different missions, and try to get a gold medal on each one. This can be quite the task , especially on later levels.
Overall, definitely a good choice for any Star Wars fan!

Star Wars Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike

Strengths: Top notch graphics and sound, splitscreen cooperative Rogue Squadron II mode.

Weakness: Difficulty, 3rd person foot missions.

I own the original game that came out during the launch of Gamecube and I'm grateful that Factor 5 decided to throw Rogue Squadron II in for free as part of the sequel (just split-screen 2-player mind you, you still have to buy the original game if you want to take advantage of a full screen). The graphics and texture mapping are improved to boot. As for the new game, sure it's more of the same but it's quite a lot of fun. When I say it's still a lot of fun, I'm referring to the vehicle and air missions. The new foot missions are a disaster. The controls are sloppy (reminds me of Dash Rendar on N64) and just aren't interesting. Still, you have the air missions which follow the storyline of the movies quite well. I only wished Factor 5 would have focused more of their energy on the air missions or at least perfect the foot missions - don't release a half baked product to the public. This game is worth it for the new 2-player cooperative mode (Rogue Squadron II remake) alone.

Star Wars Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike

Strengths: Builds on a great videogame series, superb graphics, flying missions

Weakness: Running around outside of the aircraft isn't so fun

Overall, I'd recommend picking this game up. The missions are fun to complete, the story is easy to follow, and the graphics and sound are amazing together. If you're a Star Wars fan, this game will provide you with additional enjoyment out of the characters, worlds, and aircraft. This game can be enjoyed by all ages as well.

Star Wars Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike

Strengths: Aircraft battles, star wars storyline, great graphics

Weakness: On foot missions

The aircraft battles are what we have come to know and love in this game, however the foot missions are a different story. The controls need serious work. To be frank, the foot missions were just trecherous. However, for the aircraft battles, this purchase was well warranted. There are a lot of extras for any star wars fan. Good game, but not close to its older brother Rogue Squadron II

Star Wars Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike

Strengths: Great flying and riding

Weakness: but clumsy controls for the foot missions

Star Wars games were never my cup of tea, because they are all essentially the same. However, Rebel Strike adds a few new elements, unfortunately, to the chagrin of the gamer. The controls during the foot missions are very awkward. I would have preferred the proven aerial combat, or even the new TIE fighter and the TIE Hunter. The X-Wing is still my favorite, though. Overall, the game is decent.

Star Wars Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike

Strengths: 3 different mission types to play, being Star Wars always makes a game better :), Multiplayer

Weakness: can be rough when you are playing a mission where you are trying to protect something & get fail only to fail

The third Star Wars game in the Rogue Squadron series. The gameplay in this game is really some of the best in any game out on the market today. You have so many different things you can do. You have aerial missions, ground mission, and on foot missions. The most annoying missions though, as with most games, are the protection missions. Because even if you totally own everything that gets in your way, one little ship can sneak by and blow up your transport, and you lose the mission. Although the protection missions can be rough alot of the other missions you do are alot of fun & make up for it like dogfights & missions where you have to destroy stuff :D Highly recommended for anyone who likes arcade style flight simulation games.

Star Wars Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike

Strengths: Good game play

Weakness: Ground game

Very good game play -- especially the space battles. Multi-player option enabled either cooperatively or versus each other. I could not give this game 5 stars because the ground battle portion, while less than 20% of the overall game, is not very good at all

Star Wars Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike

Strengths: First Rogue Squadron game with multiplayer. New levels. Oh, and the new ground mode.

Weakness: None

Finally, a Rogue Squadron game with multiplayer!! This game is definitely longer than the first 2. Newer and additional levels keep u busy, then u have 2 try 2 get gold medals in each. Just keeps u coming back 4 more! Then there is the multiplayer. U have a co-op option where u work with a friend as a team. Or u can enter a dogfight with a friend and finally see who's top dog of Rogue leader! Instead of just playing in the plane, there r also ground missions in certain levels where u r Luke some other character! Great game!!!

Star Wars. It's an institution of sci-fi culture. As such, LucasArts' bread and butter continues to develop video games based on George Lucas' kitsch universe. For a third, and possibly final time, Factor 5 was drafted in to create a Nintendo-only action title that sees the player assume the role of either Luke Skywalker or his right-hand pilot chum, Wedge Antilles.
