Strengths: Shows off what the PSP can do. Excellent graphics. Holds true to the first wipeout released.
Weakness: Not necessarily ground breaking. I expected content from the internet by now, when I access it through the game itself.
I usually don’t play racing games and I mostly stick exclusively to FPS games. This is my first (and as of right now my only) game for my PSP. I never owned a PS2 and never played any of the Wipeout games on it, however, when I got the PS1 in 1995, Wipeout was my first game. Coincidence? Yes! Same feeling from 1995? Absolutely! I used to play Wipeout on the PS1 for hours with my friends; that was the best way to play and it wasn’t like other racing games where, if one person gets the lead, they’ll own the rest of the race; in Wipeout, there is always a chance to catch up and anything can happen. Luckily, that hasn’t changed for the PSP version. When I fired it up in my PSP, right off the bat I was impressed. The graphics are beautiful and colors lush. I was playing this in bed and the crazy thing is that after about a minute racing, I forgot I was holding a portable gaming system in my hands. Some games say “immersive” on the back of their box, but this game truly does immerse you. I would say after about 30 seconds of racing, you’ll forget everything around you and be totally consumed. Give it a try; you’ll really get into it.
Another thing I like about this game is that you don’t have to rack your brain a whole lot. At the end of the day, all I want to do is relax and have fun. Happily, this game fulfills both needs and does so with style. The learning curve is not too bad, just like the original Wipeout, you’ll find yourself always running into walls on turns and bumping everything, but after a good half hour or less, you’ll look like a pro and it’s even more fun. Once you feel confident, you can jump into multiplayer gaming against other people. If you have a wireless router connected to the internet, you can play people that way and you don’t need to do a whole lot of configuration, just pick your internet connection when it asks you and then it will list available games for you to join. This game is great, but there are some downsides, for one, there aren’t a whole lot of vehicles to choose from, that I know of (although, the game has a download option – not sure what kind of content you can download – when I connected, it said “coming soon”…maybe cool vehicle skins or something) and you can’t really give a perfect score to something that was groundbreaking 10 years ago. The game is faithful to the original, but not groundbreaking like the original was. Overall though, if you are a Wipeout fan, you cannot go wrong with this game, it’s the same of what we love and a little more. If you are new to Wipeout or are not into racing, check this game out and I bet that will all change.

For one of the first racers to come to the new psp handheld gaming device, this is a nice game.
There is a nicce amount of levels. Graphics are beautiful and great gameply. Also there is online play and for you psp hackers don't forget about the secret Wipeout Pure browser!! Highly recommended to fellow psp gamers

Wipeout Pure is one of 2 racing games released at launch for the PSP. Personally, I think I would of rather purchased Ridge Racer. I find the ships extremely hard to control, and I have been practicing with them for quite sometime. It gets to the point of frustration, where the game just doesnt seem fun anymore. The great graphics can only get this game so far. 8 Players can play together, which is another neat feature, but its still not enough for me to recommend this game.

Strengths: Impressive 3D graphics, improved handling over the PS2 game, improved weapons
Weakness: Could be repetitive after awhile, slightly loose ship controls
Again, another rehashed Playstation title, and this time, a Playstation launch title. Wipeout games have been plenty and since it's initial debut on the Playstation, pretty unremarkable. So how does the new Wipeout Pure stack up on the PSP? Not too shabby, actually.
Wipeout Pure is basically a small frills, but graphically impressive futuristic racing game. Race around the track at mind numbing blistering speeds while blasting or being blasted by your opponents and voila, you have Wipeout Pure. Handling has been returned to its roots and are much simpler than it's PS2 older brother, Wipeout Fusion. For instance, it's much easier to keep the nose of the ship pointed forward and air-brake-assisted drifting becomes pretty simple after a small amount of practice. Energy can be absorbed from unwanted power-ups during the race which keeps races feeling more fluid. Also, a barrel-roll has been added which will give your ship a speed-boost upon landing.
The game's arsenal include classics such as rockets, missiles, and mines, disruption bolts, which impairs the vision, disables air-brakes, or reverses the controls of vehicles it contacts. Bombs have a larger explosion radius that triggers when ships come near, which makes them even more useful.
I found the controls to be a little loose at times, but satisfactory, particularly with all the new control improvements listed above. Basically, if you like high speed death races in graphically impressive futuristic tracks, this is a no brainer. It won't convert you if you don't like racers, but it's worth a try no matter what.

This is a simple racing game that all the ages will enjoy. Had I not played ridge racer, I would have said this was the best racing game for the PSP. This is nonetheless a simple yet enticing and entertaining game. I would definately pick it up.

Overall this is a nicely designed game with good graphics and vehicle response. I bought it at the launch of the PSP because it seemed like one of the better PSP titles that were available. After playing it for a while, it really just seems like another racing game where the key to winning is being the person not to crash last.
The controls respond well and the physics feel right for the game. If you are an avid racing game fan, this may be a good one for you but by now you've probably got better choices on the PSP. If you're not, I would let this one pass by.

Strengths: Great graphics, nice sense of speed, downloadable content, online multiplayer
Weakness: Can get repetitive
Wipeout Pure is an excellent portable futuristic racer that really shows off the graphical power of the PSP. The sense of speed in this game is excellent, although it does seem somewhat slower than its console counterparts. The controls are implemented well, but the ships can sometimes feel floaty around turns. There are a nice assortment of power-ups to collect as you race including various missiles, mines, shields, and even auto-pilot. The load times aren't terrible and the races are somewhat short which makes it perfect for people on the go. The tracks are all somewhat similar, but the game allows you to download additional tracks through any wireless internet connection. There are an addequate amount of ships available to choose from and you will probably just find one that handles the way you like and never choose any of the other craft. My only issue with this game is that it can start to get repetitive after a while because a lot of the tracks do look similar. Overall though, this is an excellent futuristic racer and I highly recommend checking it out.

Strengths: Amazing graphics, downloadable content, great sense of speed for a handheld racer
Weakness: Very difficult
Wipeout Pure was the first game I bought for my launch-day PSP. It definitely showed off the system. Having been used to GameBoy games up till that point I was very impressed with both the graphics and sound on this title. To this day, it remains one of the best PSP titles available. What sets is apart from many of the other racers (and there are quite a few for the PSP relative to other types of games) is the continually updated downloadable content. They have already made available 2 sets of additional tracks and racers, with the promise of more to follow.
The only drawback to this game is the extreme difficulty. While the first few levels of races aren't too hard, it ramps up fairly quickly and becomes very hard to beat.

Strengths: lots of track, downloadable content, great music, great graphics, lots of replay value
Weakness: framerate suffers at times, lots of unnecessary screens upon bootup, moderate load times
Wipeout Pure is a very good racer on the PSP. The crafts are more floaty in this version and goes back to the roots of the Wipeout franchise. There's about 12 tracks in the game, with additional tracks that can be downloaded from the Wipeout Pure homepage in the future. There's already 4 downloadable tracks at this time, with more tracks still coming out, making it a possble 20+ tracks once everything is released. This game is very recommended.

Strengths: Excellent production values. Plenty of downloadable content update packs.
Weakness: Floaty control.
Being that you ARE racing hover cars of sorts, you should expect inertia to play a large role on the handling of your vehicle. For the most part, you will get used to controlling your vehicle as the game eases you along towards higher speeds. The game only ships with a handful of tracks but it works in its favor, as by the time you win your way towards the lightning-speed ranks you'll have memorized how to conquer the tracks. Fortunately the game is being continually updated with freely downloadble content packs containing new vehicles and skins as well as new tracks. In fact, the tracks from the original Playstation version are all downloable now.
Graphics are very crisp, menus and levels are very stylized. The techno soundtrack lends to the futuristic motif of the game.
Sony seems intent on making sure you keep revisiting the game by always releasing new content packs. You'll definately get more than your money's worth with this game.

Strengths: *Graphics are amongst the best on the PSP system* - *Downloadable content available to enhance gameplay* -Wicked Fun*
Weakness: *Adds nothing new to previous iterations of the game*
Wipeout is a staple of Sony's systems - from Playstation 1, 2, and now Portable.
Wipeout is always a good game - no doubt about that. Graphics are always updating and looking prettier, but the gameplay itself has not seen as big a jump.
But as people say 'If it ain't broke, don't fix it'.
Wipeout is still a great racing game. It has a steep learning curve so you do need some racing skills to prosper in this game. Practice does make perfect here. It is worth the time however.
PSP has a few racing games available, and I would pick this one over the lot.

Strengths: Downloadable content.
Good graphics.
Quick play.
Weakness: Computer opponent AI.
I am not a Wipeout expert. I only play it to get a quick racing fix. This gets playing time with Ridge Racer for PSP but since they are both different racers, one can't go wrong with having both.
The graphics in Wipeout is one of the best for the system, but the ships seem to be made up of simple polygons with textures. That's the only thing disappointing about the graphics.
Controls take time to learn and get good at, you'll be running into walls a lot at the beginning.
The races seem to be short for me and once you mess up, there's no way of catching up and winning.
Don't know if that's a good thing or bad. Maybe if the CPU also messed up, it would even things out.
2 download packs are already available and downloading them to the system is easy once you have a stable internet connection. This gives you a new ship and more tracks to play with. This makes the game fresh even after you've beaten everything (which I haven't).
Overall, get this game, it's fun and has a lot of replay value.

Strengths: Some of the best graphics on the system, awesome multiplayer, can be used as a web browser.
Weakness: Brutal challenge, analog control can be painful, not a lot of tracks.
This is the finest incarnation of the Wipeout series, period. The graphics are simply jaw-dropping, the tracks are exciting, and the weapons are varied and FUN. The only real downside is the difficulty--it gets brutally hard within the first few difficulty levels, and is probably too much for younger gamers.

Strengths: arcade style of racing
graphics
content (periodic online upgrades available)
Weakness: gameplay
sense of speed
I love driving games, more specifically, the Burnout style of games as opposed to a simulation driver like a Forza or Gran Turismo. Therefore, keep that in mind.
I was impressed by the features of this game, as it touted periodic upgrades through the PSP wifi. Already, there is 1 new update in North America. Very cool to gain new ships and tracks without having to purchase a Wipeout Pure 2. Great for fans and added incentive to replay. I also love that the game is more about setting speed records and preserving them, than by some silly story or a tuner's paradise like the Need for Speed series. I just want to pick up and play, and jot my name down if I get a great time. I love that.
However, the sense of speed in this game is muted. Everything is so slow, as projected on the screen. Burnout projects speed very, very well. Yes, I know there are speed numbers indicating how fast you are going but it doesn't convey well to me as a driver. Some of the tracks are very bland and insipid.

Strengths: Great graphics, excellent gameplay, good music, "web browser"
Weakness: not a new game, not perfectly controlling
A lot of the PSP games are reworked ps1 or ps2 titles, and this is no exception. It is very impressive graphically, for a portable system. Cool music and a good gameplay system. You can get to a sort of "web browser". It doesn't really work very well but is it a cool thing. They really should have a useful web browser for hte psp by now, its a shame they don't. Anyway, very good game that shows off the technical abilities of a small but powerful system.
