This game is a PERFECT exmaple of how never to 'judge a book by its cover'. It looks like it might be a fun time, interesting concept, great artwork. But NO. When you try to play the game, it does not handle well with the PSP's control scheme. Over top of that, the gameplay is bland and repetive, so you really can't finish this game without a deathwish.
I can't recommend this at all, even at the $10 pricepoint i bought it at.
Weakness: Controls, gameplay: confusing and frustrating
I have owned this game for probably a month now and I am still substantially disappointed in it. At first, I thought this would be the best game out of the lot that I purchased, however, after 15 minutes of playing it the first day I got it, I realized how wrong I was. Maybe I just don't have the patience I used to have with these types of games but I expected a more action packed game and less of a 'what do I do now' type. Oh well...
The conecept of acquiring the weapons of the enemy and graphics was what turned me to purchasing this game. After playing the game for 1 week, I realized why it was clearanced. The gameplay and control is real week. Although nice to look at , it really is not something that will keep you entertained.
When you first load up Rengoku, it looks like you are going to have a great gaming experience. The graphics are detailed and look good but the game overall is a dud. The controls are stiff, the gameplay is boring and it's tedious and confusing. I do not reccomend this game unless you like games that are challenging (but not challenging in a fun way)
Strengths: Decent graphics and good stack of weapons. I also liked the characters and some of the powers they have.
Weakness: Confusing!! The path of the game is not explained properly. Also, sometimes the game ends abruptly when I expected a better ending.
Not recommended. I think the game is not worth the money. There is no fun playing this game...keeps you confused...and sometimes you keep wandering trying to figure out how to proceed with the game. The graphics are decent and the theme of the game is not that great either. I recommend spending your money on some other game!!
Yet another squandered opportunity released for the...
Strengths: Battle android FPS for PSP, sci-fi themed dungeon crawler action, solid soundtrack, multi-player support
Weakness: Awkward controls, highly repetitive enemies and environments, stiff animation, lots of backtracking, awkward dialog translations, limited customization options
Sony really needs to take another look at their quality control system for PSP software. The PSP library is hurting for good games at this point, and mediocre games like Rengoku don't do the system any justice.
Rengoku puts you in control of battle android A.D.A.M. as you enter generic brown room after brown room and fight one uninspired robot after another. There isn't enough detail or creative design here to make this more than a chore after just a few minutes of play.
The percussion-, techno- and piano-based soundtrack has earned a number of awards and honorable mentions in 2005's end-of-year awards programs at various web sites, so I guess Regoku does have one bright spot.
Unfortunately, Rengoku provides a prime example of a squandered oppportunity. A decent M-rated battle android game could have been a breakthrough title for game-starved PSP owners. Unfortunately, only the soundtrack came through for us.
This is not a game that I would recommend. It is hard to navigate and kinda boring. There are lots of weapons though. But it was only $10.00, so not a great loss!!!
don't buy it think goodness I only payed $ 9.98 for it maybe I can trade it for some store credit. So don't buy it unless you don't care to waste your money.
This would be a very nice game in my book if it was not for the control setup. The analog stick is only to change your view and now to move your character. It is frustrating trying to move in this game with the direction pad. This is a fast paced action game and without being able to use the analog stick for move is terrible. I don't think i will be finishing this game because of this fact
This game is very boring save your money . I wish I had not even bought . The first 2 minutes of game are fun but after that its the same thing over and over. This should not have been made for the psp it does not even come close to meeting gamers expectations.
The graphics are good, and the story does keep you interested throughout the entire game, but it was a very short game. Plus, there's a lot of different weapons, amors and upgrades
Rengoku has gotten a lot of bad rap from the press, from gamers, from store employees... and guess what? It deserves it. This is by far the worst game available for the PSP, and a true stinker in every sense of the word. The graphics are good at first... but then you realize that every single room looks essentially the same. The battling is fun... till you realize that all you do is mash the attack button over and over again. The challenge is decent, until you find the combos that let you just walk over any baddie you encounter. It could have been a really great gem, but ends up being just about as bad as a game can possibly be. Avoid at all costs.

Rengoku comes to us care of Hudson and Konami as a futuristic action game based around cyborg combat. The PSP hasn’t seen much attention from action games so far, so there was a fair amount of pressure on Rengoku to be a worthy entrance for the genre. Unfortunately many may be displeased. Rengoku The Tower of Purgatory, as the full title states, takes place within The Tower of Purgatory. This...
Rengoku: The Tower of Purgatory is a third-person action game that places players in a dark and distant future. Modeled in a compelling blend of Eastern and Western sci-fi/fantasy, Rengoku puts gamers in the role of a well-armed battle android that must fight its way to the pinnacle of a great tower to confront a mysterious foe. Rengoku also features immense replay value thanks to the PSP...
Unfortunately Weak
Strengths: Soundtrack is good
Weakness: Rest is bad
