If you want a great way to get more than one player on the Gamecube, this is, without a doubt, the best way to do it.
Amazingly well done graphics and sounds are a good reason to get this game, and it's the multiplayer that hooks you in and keeps you interested. Best fun is having four players going at it in a frantic battle royale, and it's definately a reason to go out and get a ocuple more controllers.
The characters show more depth than you'd expect from a game like this, so it makes you want to learn all the characters and all the moves that each has.
The single player game doesn't hold much of a candle to the multiplayer, though it's good to help polish your skills.
If you know people that want multiplayer fighting on the Gamecube, it's the top of the short list, and top of the multiplayer games.

This game is one of the few reasons i got the cube, this baby is loaded to the brim with entertainment. The game is best played in multiplayer, where up to 4 people can battle each other with their favorite nintendo characters. The game mostly involves beating up mario, dk, and the like. Get this game if you don't have it.

Super Smash Bros. is a good fighting game and a great party game. The game's graphics are fantastic and all the Nintendo characters are brought to life by the fantastic visuals. The audio is fitting, but nothing too special. The gameplay is a bit simplistic, but that makes it easy to get into. The fighting is pretty fast paced, and the main draw with the game is the 4-player battles. This can be a lot of fun, and gamers who enjoy playing games with friends will dig this game.

This is a must-have game. If you are not sure if you should get one of this, GO GET IT FIRST! This is not a typical Mario game (like sunshine), a little bit violent, or I should say it's GREAT for you to release pressure. All you need to do is to use different eye-opening Kon-Fu (?) to defeat enemies easily. It does not require you to focus for a very long time, about 1-2 min or shorter each turn. Very nice graphic design and music (vs earlier games which are still popular) and it is perfect for adults (who do not know how to play complicated games well).

Strengths: The graphics are great. One of the best on the Gamecube and the multiplayer is so good that this is the game to go with buying another controller. Secret's are quite good and the levels are quick.
Weakness: The one-player is still a little shallow but will do for some time but playing some charcters is addictive. To get some of the levels can be insanly difficult like surving with 1 life for 15 minutes!
This should be your second purchase (or get it with your first) for your Gamecube. This is the "mulitplayer" while to first is your "single-player action". If you miss this then you should be kicked and beaten (if you can't afford it you're spared). Even though this game contains some Pokemon it should not be treated as a kiddy game. You can totaly remove Pokemon from the game if you un-tick the Pokemon levels from Random Select Level and un-tick the Pokeball from the Items list. Hence the ESRB Rating of Teen.
Single Player is still shallow like I mentioned before but you should use this for multiplayer and your "single-player action" for your solo fun.
The intro is rather sweet.

Strengths: A lot of characters, I think 14 to start and about 16 to unlock. Controls are excellent. Very good graphics and gameplay.
Weakness: Not a lot of game modes to play. Other than that, its cool.
This game is one of the best games i've ever played. The controls work like a charm. This game's downfall is that there is not a lot of modes. Then again there are a lot of characters and characters to unlock. I am hoping nintendo releases another Super Smash Brothers Melee game. You better buy this!

My only reservation with the game is the plethora of "cheat codes" for the game on the Internet and the ability of those codes to short-circuit the play. Those codes seem to remove most of the game's challenges and required trial-and-error that was present in older games.

I like this game because it has alot of characters, and alot of action. Compared to the Nintendo 64 version, it is alot better. The Gamecube versoin has newer charaters, newer places, and more weapons. I definitely would recommend it to people who have friends to play with.

Weakness: None really unless you count no online play.
Take the Nintendo cast of characters, put them in a arena, and let them duke it out. Life can't get no better. Nintendo had a hit when they brought this game over to the Gamecube. With the Gamecube's improved graphics, this brawler is just plain fun, especially with a few friends. To improve replayability, Nintendo has added several features, such as several types of play modes, trophy collection and plenty of unlockables. Definitely a must buy.

If you have a Nintendo Gamecube, you need this game. Many of the classic Nintendo characters are in the game and each have individual abilities. You can go head-to-head, make teams, or do a single player game. Many hours of fun. I would buy this game again. My kids and I love it. There are unlockable characters and levels.

Weakness: Single player campaign basically nonexistant
Super Smash Bros Melee is a great 2-4 player game. The action can be impossible to follow at times with four players, which only makes it more entertaining. This game was made for multiplayer and it shows in the effort put into balance between the characters. Predictably, this also causes the single player to suffer. It's really just a cosmetic campaign that takes about 20 minutes of grudge matches with little to no story. Fine for this sort of game, as long as you understand that going in.

This game is THE reason why I bought the Gamecube in the first place! The graphics are the best I have seen for cartoon characters and the skills required to be a master at this game are unfathomable there is no end to the possibilities!! If anyone is unsatisfied with this game that liked Super Smash Bros. the original please tell me why.

Strengths: Great multiplayer, unlockables, quality graphics and sound.
Weakness: Can get repetitive if only playing single player, limited amount of moves for each character.
Super Smash Brothers Melee is a game best played with three friends. Multiplayer matches are fast and always fun. Anyone without other players to fight will find that the game doesn't last as long as it could. Anyone who has a regular group of Cube players should definitely pick this one up. Lone players and fans of classic Nintendo characters might want to rent first.

Strengths: Very good quality. Excelent multiplayer. Excelent graphics. Entertains for a very long time. Hey, I've had it for two years and I still think it's great. Lots of different things to do.
Weakness: Except that the one player is dull, it is a perfect game.
An excellent two-four player game. It may seem like a 10 year old's game from the look of it but is definitely a work of art. The publishers should be very pleased with themselves. Anybody form ages 5-23 should be very content with this product. It is worth every penny. Lots of action, lots of characters, and shouldn't be rated teen. Is just plain cool. Preveous owners of the N64 version, get this game, it's the BIG APPLE!!!!

Great game to play with your friends. This is my favorite fighting game on the Gamecube, although Soul Calibur II is a close second. Very fast paced and unpredictable with all the stuff falling out of the sky.

I love this game. I play with my family and friends. It imporves on the N64 in every way. The graphics... incredible. You can pause and zoom up on Mario's denim or Bowser's scales...
I got all the characters and levels. You should too. Get this game.

If your the type of person who gets great joy out of knocking someone high fly and off the stage then Smashing! Super Smash Bros. Melee is the game for you. Although it doesn't contain any blood or gore we see in other fighting games you can still have a lot of fun in this game. All of Nintendo's best charaters are back for an all out brawl plus awesome stages to duke it out with family and friends. This may not be Mortal Kombat, but if you like Link and Mario then you'll love this game.
Strengths: Best multiplayer game,the Nintendo guys should be really proud of their work and their selves for this exellent game.It was realy good graphic to bee a cartoon game atleast thats what i call this masterpiece.

What do i got to say here?The graphic was really good and there are plenty of characters which all had a different little side attack.Like DK`s side attack he makes his arm spin around and when you take your finger off the button theres a real big punch for the one in front of Donkey Kong.

Strengths: This games graphics are incredible! From Peach's dress blowing in the wind to Mario's cap flying off when he is hit hard enough, this game is one of nintendo's best! On a scale of 1 to 10, It's a 9.

Strengths: The graphics, the controlls, the levels, the characters, the multiplayer modes, everything about this game is killer. It may look like a cartoon at first, however once you play it will grow on you.
Weakness: None, unless you count that it has weakened me physically because of how addicted I am to this game.
This game allows the gamer to play as a variety of Nintendo characters, from the standard Mario and Link well known characters to other characters such as the original Mr Game&Watch, Ness, and the Ice Climbers, three older-style characters from now ancient games.
Dozens of levels to play on from various previous Nintendo games, some of them simple flat levels while others require the player to pay more attention to the level rather then the character that they are fighting against.
Excellent game; it has replaced the multiplayer of 007 Goldeneye(N64) for me and many of my friends.

This is a must have game and even for people who dont play their Gamecube very much, you will now if you play this game. One battle on this game and you are hooked. The price is a great deal too.

Strengths: This game has everything, Ive played it since it came out and I still do, lots of hidden skills in it. Example: The wave dash.
Weakness: None. Sept that the comps AI can be dumb at times.
Best game ever made. Its so good, I've played it and mastered lots of skills like the wavedash, and after you get that good its so fun to play against other players who are that good as well, so much to do in the game.
Never stops being fun (Unless your fighting someone and you always lose to them, that can make it stressful)

Polished 2D/3D type fighting game starring Nintendo brand characters. SSBM is a fleshed out update to the N64 game with an expanded roster and more options. The game has a small learning curve, so it isn't a chore to get into like most fighting games are these days. Despite that, there is a lot of depth to be found in this game. Completing the various game modes (Classic, All-Star, Adventure and Event Matches) with all the characters would take a sizable chunk of time. There is great attention to detail on the part of Nintendo when it comes to graphics, audio and play mechanics too. The Smash Brothers franchise is quality through and through. It's a title I keep coming back to because of how fun it is to smack the crap out of Mario, Yoshi or [insert any of the stupid Pokemon characters here]. That, coupled with my obsessive need to acquire all the cool trophies makes it a keeper. (For some reason, I just like scrolling down and watching each trophy spin and reading their selected blurb.) This is a gem and any self-respecting Gamecube owner shouldn't be without it.
Nintendo Super Smash Brothers Melee is probably one of the two best fighting games ever produced for the Gamecube (Soul Calibur II is my other favorite). The game offers a wide variety of characters as well as the opportunity to gain more characters and maps if you can beat certain amount of opponents or challenges. The controls are simple and each character has his or her own special powers which can be used to change the tide of battle when necessary. This is a great game for the Gamecube. Pick it up if you like fighting games.
Super Smash Bros Melee is the ultimate game for the Nintendo fan. In addition to being a great game that cane be played for hours upon hours, it is almost a mini-museum for Nintendo fans. A great package that hits on all cylinders.
To start with SSBM is a beautiful game that manages to blend the look and feel of everything Nintendo. Characters from the past, Japanese only characters and future franchises are all together in one cohesive gestalt that manages to look great. The sound and music is treated in the same great fashion. Themes are orchestrated and all evoke a feeling of nostalgia.
SSBM is packed with game modes. It is an excellent single player game with lots of challenges and varied enough play types that break from the boring single player game that sometimes plagues fighting games. The multiplayer, however is the real show. Tons of characters and weapons, allowing for a balanced and frenetic fighting environment.
SSBM is an easy recommendation for any Gamecube owner. It combines a good single player adventure with an excellent multiplayer game. Lots of extras to unlock and the ultimate Nintendo fan service package.

Super Smash Bros. Melee is a huge game. The game's basic idea -- take some Nintendo characters and have them beat each other up -- is taken to the nth degree, with a great selection of characters, unlockable characters, arenas, and challenges. There is a lot to do in the game, and simply going through all the different choices (to say nothing of playing them) will occupy you for quite a while.
Each character has a set of moves that is unique for that character -- Mario for instance has his familiar selection of jumps, kicks, and punches, while Pikachu has electrical attacks and thunder bolts. Each character has what makes them unique in the Nintendo universe.
The best thing, though, and the unquestionable reason to get this game is the multiplayer. Get some friends together, and it's hard to find a better party game.
Super Smash Bros. Melee is highly polished. Graphics, sound, gameplay, extras -- it's all top notch. A lot of thought and effort went into all of the characters and options. There are trophies to earn, a special mode to unlock, and something for everyone to obsess about.
The only downside is that this just isn't an absorbing one-player game. An good amount of effort was made to put in an adventure mode, as well as other modes for one player, and it's nice to have all that, but it's not the same kind of experience.
Unless you have no friends, there is no reason on earth not to have this game.

In single player mode, you will be unlocking new stuff for months. There are so much to unlock--hidden characters, hidden levels, trophies, etc. Multiplayer mode is the gem of this game. You have so much fun kicking your friend's butts. Only if this game was online, it would totally rock. In conclusion, this game is a must buy for all gamecube owners. You will be playing this game for months just trying to unlock everything and maybe years just with your friends.

Smash Brothers is Nintendo's take on the fighting genre. While many fanboys have fantasized about all the great Nintendo characters coming together in one game, I don't think any of us imagined it would turn out this great. While the controls and move sets aren't incredibly deep, there is a lot to do in this game and you will spend hours bashing your friends in the 4-player mode. The graphics and sound all faithfully recreate the characters and worlds of Nintendo's great franchises (too bad Kid Icarus wasn't included). The more you play, the more you unlock including new characters, levels and trophies. I don't think any game offers as much to unlock as Smash Brothers. You'll be spending at least a hundred hours just trying to unlock all the secrets in this game. While the one player mode isn't as good as the 4-player, the quest mode they've added is interesting and you'll be playing it through several times. All Gamecube owners should buy this game.
This is probably the best game ever on the gamecube system. Imagine playing as all of your favorite nintendo characters with over 2o to choose from. This game is not 5 hours your done. There is a nice multiplayer mode and single player mode. The game is worth buying the system for!!

Super Smash Brothers Melee is the best-selling game for the Gamecube, and it's easy to understand why. The multiplayer gameplay never gets old and boasts a slew of options so that the experience never gets old. When you couple that with a nice set of unlockable characters and levels, you can easily play SSBM for years without finding all of the hidden goodies. The single player mode is not nearly as fun over time, though some of the challenges are quite difficult and very satisfying once completed.

The concept behind the series is also a good one. Taking characters from the most popular games Nintendo owns, and pitting them against each other is a longtime dream of many a longtime videogame player. Which of my favorite characters is the toughest? Who will be the last man/lizard standing? When you first play the game, you get a thrill akin to the end of Frank Miller’s Batman: The Dark Knight Returns. Admittedly, not quite as big a thrill, but really, what could be?

The multiplayer can often deteriorate into good natured real world brawls. It’s definitely one of the best multiplayer games out there.
