PGR 4 is a winner!!!

Strengths: Graphics are very smooth... Music selection is tight... The weather effects are very realistic

Weakness: More arcade like than Forza 2 (but hey realism isn't everything)

I just won a wireless racing wheel from MS (go figure... it really WAS a Bill Gates giveaway) and I wanted to try it out.
After playing forza 2 and PGR3 I still had a thirst for more. I found a good deal on PGR 4 and was amazed. The graphic presentation during bad weather scenes and at night is just incredible. The detail of the raindrops on the windshield and hydroplaning in the curves will have you checking outside to see if it really is raining. I also really liked the fact that the music is not just the same rock and hip hop we all know and love but some jazzy numbers thrown in as well. All in all you can't lose if you pick up this one.

Bizarre Creations has never gotten back to the...

Strengths: Great graphics and sound design Tons of cars Solid arcade racing gameplay

Weakness: Motorcycle controls Load times

In short, this PGR is better than 3, but still not as good as 1 or 2 from the original XBOX days. To those new to PGR, the series looks to perfect arcade racing, by forcing the player to make risk/reward decisions throughout each race. More risk means more Kudos points (the in-game currency as well as a requirement for certain race types); however, pulling off the stunts required to earn Kudos can lead to crashes that put you out of contention in a race. The graphics are superb and the sound flawless. Bizarre has faithfully recreated many real-world cities and cars and crammed them into this game. Also, this is the first PGR game with weather impacting game play and impact it does. Whether you are dealing with rain, snow or fog, the weather will impact racing conditions more than you think. I have not been impressed with the inclusion of motorcycles. What sounds like a no-brainer good idea, ends up not being very satisfying given that the motorcycles are extremely hard to control and feel very puny compared to the cars in the game. As a result I have yet to spend much time with the bikes. In the end, the game is fun, but it does not reach the peaks of earlier PGR games. I was seriously addicted to PGR 2 and it was all I played for months on end, this game just has not grabbed me in the same way. The price just dropped on this to $39.99, so it may be worth a pick up, otherwise, if you are looking for an arcade racer, you may want to try the excellent Test Drive Unlimited or the Burnout Paradise demo to see if one of those games interests you.

Project Gotham Racing 4

Strengths: Graphics, visuals, tracks.

Weakness: N/A

From the look, PGR4 is not so much different from PGR3 but it doesn't mean it's a bad thing. PGR4 still offers amazing visuals and smooth graphics, and at the same time adds newer cars, motorcycles and improved controls. There are tons of cars and motorcycles, and multitude of racing courses that you can choose from. Both the career and arcade modes are fun to play. The weather effects are pretty amazing and do add some nice environmental touch to the race. All in all, PGR4 is a great racing game and I would recommend it to all racing fans.

Racing - Project Gotham Style

Strengths: Pretty Visuals, Bikes add nice variety

Weakness: Not major changes from previous versions

Fans of previous PGR series will be perfectly at home with this one. While some areas have improved, it is more of the same gameplay which is not a bad thing.
Single player career mode is really split nicely with enough room to make mistakes & yet come back in next race to make up for it. Kudos system works well & provides a good level of satisfaction.
Visuals in this game are some of the best that you will find in a racing game. There are some nice mix of bikes in there & once you get the hang of them , you might enjoy them more than the four-wheelers.
As is their tradition, online in PGR4 is pretty solid & enjoyable with upto 8 players. You can also share your captures online.
Overall a must game for any racing fan

PGR4

Strengths: graphics, gameplay

Weakness: none

Project Gotham Racing 4 continues to be a great racing game in the series. The graphics and gameplay are excellent. There are lots of cars and they have added motorcycles that can be raced. Both the arcade mode and career modes are pretty satisfying as well as the multiplayer component. I really enjoyed this game better than the previous PGR 3.

Project Gotham Racing 4 (XB360)

Strengths: Excellent game play, beautiful graphics

Weakness: Not dramatically different than the previous version.

I was expecting more of the same but was pleasantly surprised by newer cars, better control and handling. The game play was fun and was for sure a great buy.

Good arcade racer, much better than Project Gotham 3

Strengths: Great graphics, has that "Project Gotham Racing Feel" down pat, pretty good soundtrack

Weakness: Not a whole lot new, bikes don't really add a lot to the game, AI racers very tough to beat

This is an interesting upgrade from PGR 4. I've been a big fan of this series since it was on the Dreamcast as Metropolis Street Racer. I liked the Xbox PGRs but Project Gotham 3 felt a bit rushed to me on the 360. It's hard to put my finger on it-- I didn't think 3 had any major flaws, but it just didn't feel right. This game came as a really nice upgrade-- it feels more like the Metropolis Street Racer games of the past, but with a nice graphical upgrade and some polish here and there. In many ways it's not much different than PGR3, but the upgrades make it worth it. I agree with some of the other reviewers here than if you don't already have Project Gotham 3, skip it and buy 4. It's a much tighter game overall.

The game is a very fun arcade racer, so don't expect ultra-realism here. The graphics have been nicely upgraded from PGR 3, with better environments and weather effects.

On the downsides, load times can take forever (I thought they'd be a bit more optimized for the 360 now!)-- if you lose a race (and/or don't complete the objectives) and have to restart it can take quite a while just to put you right back on the starting line. And the game can be very tough. Even on the easier difficulties, if you fall too far behind, you CAN NOT catch up to the computer-guided (AI) racers.

The bikes are an interesting addition but I don't feel like they really added what they could have. Maybe the next generation of the game will have them more integral.

So overall, it's a nice upgrade of a great series. It's definitely not for everyone, and I know some people like PGR 3 better, but for me personally, PGR 4 is the best of the series since PGR2, if not the Dreamcast days.

Gentlemen (& Ladies) Start Your Engines

Strengths: Same great Project Gotham Racing gameplay and graphics. Weather effects and motorcycles are a welcome addition. Fantastic realism. No lame racetracks. Great replay value. Easy to get started.

Weakness: Forza 2 has a greater variety of cars and customization. Takes a lot of time to work yourself up to the top in career mode (but that can be a good thing for some).

I own Forza 2 Motorsport as well and this is the superior of the two in my opinion. It's grittier and you have to love the motorcycles and the wet weather. This game is a must for any motorcycle racing fan looking for some head-to-head action with some cars. Next time around they should add some trucks and SUVs to the mix. In addition, I still don't understand why any game called "Project Gotham Racing" doesn't offer you the choice to drive the Batmobile. Hopefully, we'll see that in the next installment.

PGR 4

Strengths: great graphics and gameplay

Weakness: can be hard

PGR 4 is a great game. With the addition of bikes, the game seems to have a fresh feel to it. The graphics are good for a 360 game, and the gameplay is as tight as ever. Overall I would recommend this game to any racing fan.

PGR4

Strengths: Great HD graphcis, weather effects, good sound effects.

Weakness: Motorcycles, so-so soundtrack, same tracks seen in PGR3.

PGR is back in its 4th installment and could very well be the last since Bizarre Creations is longer with Microsoft. Does it live up to PGR3? Not so much. First off all the tracks are pretty much unchanged. They just added weather effects to each of the tracks. Also the menu's have been downgraded and functionality is kind of off also. Not sure what they were thinking with the menu's. Another thing is lately online there have been no one online playing this game. You just sit waiting to connect to other racers for 10+ minutes! Sure there are a few problems this year, but this really is a great arcade racing game. The game still controls great, especially drifting. The cities and car models look fantastic in there HD glory. The new weather effects are also nicely done and can change during a race! Career mode is changed for the better and the garages are much better. Remember it does have Geometry Wars arcade unit in the garage! This is must buy for fans of PGR and for fans of arcade racing games.

Better than PGR3

Strengths: More tracks and added attraction of weather hazards.

Weakness: Not much to complain about -- if you are used to PGR3, you may find this is too similar if you don't explore the new features.

Weather effects, more tracks , more cars and also motorcycles. Lots of cool stuff you can download too. If you haven't tried PGR3, skip it and move directly to PGR4. YOu won;t be disappointed

Project Gotham Racing 4

Strengths: The game is immense.. It's a ton of fun and less "serious" when compared to Forza. For a casual racing experience this is your game.

Weakness: Could use more cars..

Honestly, what can be said... the PGR brand has been around for several years and this product is similar to the last few.. However, the graphics are improved and there are more tracks and cars. However, there could be a few more cars and they could appear a bit more realistic. However, overall this is just a fun game to play with friends and family and one that isn't as "serious" as Forza Motorsport, which depending on what you are looking for could be a great thing. Again, i love this game and will continue to play it for a long time coming..

Good arcade racing game

Strengths: Nice graphics and the new asian tracks

Weakness: Car models aren't as good as Forza2 or GT5 Prologue, need more tracks

Although the gameplay is very similar to all the PGR games, this is definetely the best PGR game yet. The addition of bikes make the game much more interesting, and funny. ;) The new hydroplaning effects are very realisic. Overall, a nice arcade racing game. Some more tracks would be nice.

More of the same

Strengths: Graphics, sound, control

Weakness: 30fps, above average load times

I've played through MSR on Dreamcast, PGR 1, 2, 3 (worst of the series), and now 4. Much of the gameplay throughout this series has been the same. However, I must say PGR4 is the best of the bunch. The only thing it lacks is 60fps. Throughout the series, only PGR1 on the original Xbox manage to crank out 60fps. It's just sad that PGR4, a 2nd attempt on the 360 still couldn't meet that magic number. That said, the use of just the right amount of motion blur effects really help make this 30fps racer look smoother. The rest of the game is pretty good. I just hope they will release an update to include all previous tracks in the entire series.

PGR4 Review

Strengths: Fun, fun, fun!

Weakness: Soundtrack is disapointing

I was one of the biggest Project Gotham Racing 2 fans you will ever find, but I was very disappointed in PGR3. I was skeptical about PGR4 at first but decided to give it a try. And I am glad I did. PGR4 may very well be my favorite Xbox 360 game. The graphics are great, the courses are very good too, and the cars handle great. Everything that is great about Project Gotham Racing returns, so if you are a fan of the series or just a racing fan in general, you owe it to yourself to buy this one.

Project Gotham Racing 4

Strengths: -Mix of arcade and sim racing. -Nice Graphics and weather effects.

Weakness: -Tough AI. -Some slow down in some areas.

Project Gotham is a great mix of arcade and sim racing. The biggest addition to this years game is the weather effects and the motorcycles. The weather effects in this game are amazing and really effect the racing. Puddles in the road and snow cause heartache if you go too fast. Motorcycles in my opinion really didn't need to be added as they are pretty ease to drive because you rarely crash like you think that you would.
My problem with the game is the tough A.I. in the game. When the computer A.I. gets ahead of you, it's really hard for you to catch up causing many headaches even on normal. They could have toned that down a bit for less hard core players.
Online is a blast when playing with friends and the snapshot and video maker is another nice addition to the game.
I suggest to purchase this game.

Project Gotham Racing 4

Bizarre Creations, in partnership with Microsoft, is back with Project Gotham Racing 4. The PGR series is one that dates back to Metropolis Street Racer, so the history of the franchise has been around for close to seven years. With the in-depth experience the developer has had with the racing genre, and with helping launch Xbox Live on both the Xbox and Xbox 360, can Bizarre Creations continue...
