Dewy's Adventure

Strengths: Highly stylized and unique platformer game for the Wii.

Weakness: Controlled entirely via tilt meaning sloppy and loose controls which make the game more frustrating than it should be.

Like many early Wii titles, the platformer adventure game Dewy's Adventure relies heavily on the motion controls of the Wii system. You control Dewy, a blob of, well, dew, by holding the Wii remote sideways and tilting it forward/backward and left/right. This makes Dewy slide around the various worlds (which consist of typical themes like ice and lava). As you progress you gain a handful of abilities (such as being able to turn into a cloud of mist). Of course you must use these in the appropriate places to advance in the game. Overall, the control works but it can be overly difficult especially as this game seems aimed at a young audience - one that will, in fact, probably find the game too frustrating. The game does have a level editor and you can play the levels you create in a multiplayer mode where you race to collect stars. This game was not worth a purchase at the full original $50 price tag but since it has come down to $20 or less at most places it is definitely worth checking out if you are looking for a family-friendly yet somewhat challenging platformer game not featuring Mario.

Dewy's Adventure (Wii)

Strengths: Very good graphics, kid-friendly gameplay, good use of Wiimote controls

Weakness: Camera issues

Dewy's Adventure is a great-looking, kid-friendly platformer on the Wii. Dewy is a drop of water that has to save all of his friends, and works through different water-based attacks to fight his enemies. These different water changes also help with the platforming and working through the levels, even with some camera issues that make the gameplay a little difficult. The Wiimote works well to control Dewy through the game. Overall, it's a great platformer for the Wii that works well for kids of all ages.

Dewy's Adventure - WII

Strengths: The temperature-based mechanics is interesting.

Weakness: The camera does not always keep the action in view.

The control scheme requires you to tilt Dewy's world in order for him to navigate obstacles and clear levels. The game also gives you control over Dewy's temperature. Send a chill his way and he transforms into a chunk of ice that can perform simple attacks. Heat things up and Dewy forms a cloud which can hit enemies with a small lightening bolt. The game's consistent art style is engaging and well-done. Finding all one hundred of Dewy's friends on every level is a real challenge, so the replay value is there. Design levels on your own and send them over Nintendo's Wi-Fi network for friends and strangers alike to enjoy. Dewy is the kind of Wii title gamers was hoping there were more of on the console.

Dewy's Adventure

Konami brought us a very unique game at Nintendo’s grand launch of the Wii entitled Elebits. This frantic “point-and-click” game featured cute little animals and a kiddy art style that offered what was more like a really long mini-game than anything else. But that’s about to change with Konami’s newest addition to the Wii’s growing library, Dewey’s Adventure. Players will again be...
