Street Fighter Alpha Anthology

Strengths: A great collection of SF Alpha games

Weakness: Outdated graphics, lack of extras

Street Fighter Alpha Anthology is a collection of Street Fighter Alpha games. Capcom did an excellent job of porting them over to the PS2. They retain their old school looks, gameplay and difficulty. Thus, graphics is a bit outdated.

The biggest weakness is the lack of extras in this collection. No art gallery, no history, no timeline about the Alpha series.

Street Fighter Alpha Anthology is great for casual gamers and a must have for true Street Fighter fans.

Yet another solid game from a solid franchise

Strengths: Beatiful character anime rendering; plenty of bonuses

Weakness: No online multiplayer

As you know, Street Fighter Alpha is a prequel to the Street Fighter series and has an anime theme to it. SF Alpha Anthology brings together all of the Alpha games that were made in this series and does so in a fantastic way. The characters look gorgeous in this game, and we get the same amazing sounds and effects that we're used to by now. With plenty of unlockable bonuses in this game, you won't be disappointed. The only thing that is missing from this game is an online multiplayer mode. Otherwise, this is a must-have for any fan of the series.

Custom combo collections

Strengths: Collection of Alpha games

Weakness: Lack of bonus contents

This is a compilation of the famous three games of the Street Fighter Alpha series which have the customized combos as custom combos and also the addition of super arts. The game also includes a special game Super Pocket fighter released for the Playstation. This is a great game for your fighting game collection since is a compilation and is worth your money.

All of the Street Fighter Alpha Game On One Disc

Strengths: All Games Play Just As Well As Gamers Will Remember

Weakness: Lack of Extras

With Capcom bringing the Street Fighter Collection to the Playstation 2 it's only natural that the same treatment would be done for the Alpha series on Street Fighter Alpha Anthology.

Capcom did a good job of porting all of the Alpha games to the Playstation 2 as all of the games play just as their original counterparts did without any problems and they even added in a mode in which character can be mixed so you can have Ryu from Street Fighter Alpha go against Ken from Street Fighter Alpha 3 if you like. The biggest complaint one could have with the collection is the lack of extras about the history of the series as it would have been nice if they had stuff like video clips of interviews with the people that made the Street Fighter Alpha games, Art from the games & Arcade Cabinets, Commercials etc.

I would highly recommend this collection to fans of Street Fighter Alpha and fans of 2D fighting games although they probably won't need anybody to recommend it to them since they will already know that the Street Figher Alpha games are some of the best 2D fighting games around.

SF Alpha Anthology

Strengths: Old school 2d fighting, Combines all the Alpha games on one disc.

Weakness: Old school(hard) difficulty, Old school graphics.

This compilation is pretty much a must buy for hardcore Street Fighter fans. Casual fans may enjoy it too at a bargain price of $30. The game play is good ol' Street Fighter with hard difficulty intact. If you have Street Fighter Anniversary Collection you might as well pick this up and have a 2D fight night. If you shun anything old and enjoy purely new video gaming, then avoid this.

Street Fighter Alpha Anthology

Strengths: nice compilation of the greatest 2D fighting series. controls.

Weakness: outdated graphics

Remember the good ol days of Street Fighter tournaments, mastering offensive and defensive techniques with your favorite character(s)? Street Fighter Alpha Anthology brings you back to these days, giving you a full compilation of all the Alpha games along with a couple others. Beyond that, there's not a whole lot more to say. The arcade controls ported over nicely to the PS2 controller and makes doing some of the combos nice and smooth. Beyond that, the only gripe I have is the graphics definitely look outdated. But what do you expect from an older set of games?

I'd definitely recommend that anyone who is/was a fan of the Street Fighter series take the time to pick this up and get back to their roots. It'll be well worth your time.

Nice Collection for Street FIghter Fans

Strengths: Excellent reproduction of arcade controls

Weakness: Not many extras

Street Fighter Alpha Anthology includes all of the Street Fighter Alpha games and Gem Fighters. Unlike previous ports of the Street Fighter Alpha games, Street Fighter Alpha Anthology does a better job of recapturing the original arcade experience. Capcom did a great job translating the arcade controls to the PS2 controller and the graphics look great. Unfortunately, there aren't many extras with the game so there isn't a great reason to pick up this anthology if you already own the past releases of these games. Definitely recommended for any 2D Fighting gamer who doesn't own these yet.

Great Collection of Game for a great price

Strengths: Jewel Fighter or in Japan Pocket Fighter

Weakness: NONE

If you love street fighter alpha series, get this game. I mainly got it for pocket fighter, (didn't remember being hard on the PS), love the whole collection and the price was a steal.

Alpha Collection

Strengths: Own the entire Alpha series in one disc.

Weakness: Missing the new characters from PSP version.

This is a collection of all the arcade SF Alpha games. This includes all version of Alpha 1-3. The Alpha games are dated, but still worth playing. This is the most affordable way to own the whole series. My only complain is that it is missing the new characters from the PSP version. Otherwise this would be the prefect Alpha Collection.

Street Fighter Prequel (Anime Style)

Strengths: Compiled the entire Street Fighter Alpha Series and even includes Pocket Fighters.

Weakness: Was it necessary to include every version of Street Fighter Alpha? Where is Street Fighter Alpha 4, Capcom?

This series is an offshoot both story wise and artistically. The prequel to Street Fighter tries to “explain” the story and clarify the motives for many of the characters. The game seems to diverge from the tournament style prevalent in the original Street Fighter series and instead have characters trying to reach their antagonist, but enough about the “story”. The art direction has an even more anime feel with characters like Sakura, Rose and R. Mika that helps to positively distinguish it from the original.

Similar to many of the Street Fighter games, the gameplay mechanics and controls are great. If you’ve played any of the series, the mechanics and controls should come naturally. Along with the Street Fighter Anniversary Collection, this game is a must for 2-D fighting enthusiasts.

Collection of some of the best fighters ever

Strengths: Lots of games, lots of modes, tons of fun, will last you awhile

Weakness: No online play

If you've ever played an arcade fighting game, you've no doubt have experienced the Street Fighter series at least once.

This collection brings together all the Street Fighter Alpha series, some of which people consider the best installments of the game. In the game you get Alpha 1, Alpha 2, Alpha 2 Gold (which was previously a Japan only release) and Alpha 3 (and its Japanese exclusive parts too).

I must say that this is a great game. All your favorite characters are there and its tons of fun. Precise controls and awesome sounds and gameplay make for a package that will last you quite awhile. This is well worth a pick up in my opinion.

A pleasant trip through memory lane

Strengths: Faithful emulations; variable difficulty levels; 5 games in one; sprite based 2D graphics; balanced gameplay

Weakness: Old engine has clipping and hit detection issues

When you think of the Tekkens, DOAs, and Virtua Fighters of this era, you can't help but be whisked away back towards the nostalgia of its progenitors, the old school 2D sprite based fighters that laid down this foundation. This collection of games packaged in one disc does a faithful recreation that should satisfy newcomers and bring back fond memories for those departed veterans alike.

There is nothing greater than the value that this game provides. Each game could justifiably be $8, and with the way the 6th generation consoles has been positioning itself, you may very well pay this amount in the all too near future. With this collection, it's a straight bargain for something much more tangible in the form of a disc and also perfect recreations of the arcade versions. Big and colorful, loading times kept to a minimum with the media loading, and just fun times. Mapped perfectly to the PS2 controller, the controls will never approximate the joystick of the arcades but instead, provide insight into the versatility of the ps2 controller. It is very natural. Nothing more can be said about these games. Capcom has finely balanced each fighter. In the 2D world of fighting games, button mashing is much more easily exposed. Each character created is finely balanced even though the later versions of the characters act a little too similar to the fighting repriotire available.

The negatives is that the old school fighting engine is aging very fast. Some hit detection issues arise. Clipping is sometimes prevalent but that comes up only between very skilled players pushing the combo system to its limits.

In conclusion, it is much more wise to grab a disc like this simply because we may never see recreations in disc form again with the prevailing attitude of downloading classics.
