Great DS game

Strengths: Online play, Wi fi play, Tetris, 6 modes

Weakness: half the modes suck

Online play is amazing, 10 people can play off one cartage if you have 10 people with a DS in wifi range. Too bad On line support is only 4. Playing tetris, with power up mario kart style.

Of the 6 game modes half of them suck. The 2 puzzle modes are decent, but not to much fun. The touch screen game is nice. The push and catch games are completely boring.

Tetris (DS)

Strengths: lots of different modes of play

Weakness: not as engaging as the Tetris of the late 1980s

Tetris for DS is pretty good game. It has lots of different ways to play. For single player, there is standard, catch, mission, puzzle, touch and push. Within some of the modes, there are additional choices. For example, Standard has the following choices: Marathon, Line Clear and vs CPU. Marathon is the closest to the original Tetris of old. But instead of playing endlessly, the goal is to clear 200 lines. After each 10 lines cleared, then level increases and the speed of the blocks dropping increases. I feel that the difficulty ramps up too quickly. The game is less enjoyable and more stressful earlier. I have only made it up to about level 8 out of 20. The game show you the next 6 pieces. It also shows you a ghost image of where the block will drop - but this can be turned off in the options. The bottom screen is where you play and the top screen shows scenes from previous Nintendo games. You also have the option to hold a block as it is dropping and then play it later.

The music is from classic Nintendo games and can get very annoying.

Overall I would give Tetris an average score for a $30 game.

The different play modes may appeal to some and certainly provide more variety than just "normal" Tetris

Tetris DS

Strengths: familiar game play

Weakness: see below

After a few weeks with Tetris DS, there were a bunch of items that bothered me:

- The changing/moving backgrounds were distracting early on. (newness) I found myself looking at was going on in the background vs. looking at the pieces. Eventually, the backgrounds were mundane and I was able to ignore them.
- The 6 piece preview is too much. I wish it had an option to go back to the single piece preview.
- In some cases, the piece gets chopped off enough so you don’t know what the initial shape is. I don’t know if that’s because of the screen or what.
- I have mixed feelings on the “infinite spin cheat”. I don’t like that you can keep the piece floating indefinitely by spinning it.

So overall, it’s an ok title, but if you grew up with the old school Tetris in the arcades, you might be disappointed with the “enhancements” built into this version of Tetris.

Tetris is Back!

Strengths: Great retro feel with Nintendo characters and music, lots of modes, addictive, online play.

Weakness: The retro Nintendo theme may turn some gamers off, ghost mode shows where peices will land.

Tetris is one of the most imitated games of all time with hundreds of wannabe puzzle games. But somehow, those titles never quite replicate the fun and feel of the original Tetris. As a big Nintendo fanboy, I was ecstatic to see Tetris get the Nintendo makeover complete with classic characters and themes from my favorite game developer. There are so many modes to play but I always end up going to what I know best - standard mode. The LAN mode is great because it supports up to 10-players with just one cart. Online play is a lot more limited but it's great to still have competition whenever you feel like it. I highly recommend this game!

Tetris updated-- but do we need it?

Strengths: It's Tetris! It's still a fun game.

Weakness: It's Tetris! There's not a whole lot MUST HAVE new stuff here.

Sorry for the lack of originality in the Pros and Cons, but it's true! This is Tetris. Tweaked nicely for the Nintendo DS; with an eye to some nostalgia with familiar Nintendo characters. But at its core, it's Tetris. The same game you've been playing now for coming up on 20 years. That said, it is still one of the most addictive puzzlers ever; even people who traditionally don't like puzzle games tend to at least enjoy Tetris.

The new modes are sort of hit and miss, and online is a nice addition.

Basically, if you don't have another version of Tetris, or want to see the new rule changes (each 'official' version of Tetris must be officially licensed, and what constitutes official rules has changed over the years), this is as good a way as any. If you've played Tetris to death already, you may want to steer clear; yes, there's new stuff here but I don't know if it's enough to warrant an all-new purchase.

If you've never played Tetris-- 5 stars. It's a great puzzle game.

If you're a fan of Tetris and Nintendo, have some nostalgia for it all, or just want to check out a fun game-- 4 stars.

Otherwise-- 3 stars. It's a good version of Tetris with fun modes. 3 stars isn't a slam; it's a perfectly good game, there's just nothing in my head that makes it an ABSOLUTE MUST PLAY in this specific format (for the DS). If you've played Tetris to death, there's not enough new here in my opinion to warrant a purchase at full price. (but if you see a great price through Pricegrabber it might be worth checking out!)

Handheld Tetris is back

Strengths: Tetris?

Weakness: Some of the new modes aren't great, but that's really not important

Tetris on GameBoy was one of the most addictive games of all time. Tetris on the DS is now seeking that title. While much of the game is identical with some added old-school Nintendo flair, the best addition is that of multiplayer locally or on the Wi-Fi Connection. Play it for 5 minutes or 5 hours, Tetris remains one of the greatest pick up and play games ever created.

Another useless tetris rerun

Strengths: Online play

Weakness: Been there done that a million bajillion times, shameless fanboy appeal, milk the same game over and over mentality.

This game really only has one plus going for that, and that's the online play. Too bad it's really all been done before with tetrinet years and years ago with various portable versions floating around. All this game does is add a little nintendo fanboyism into the themes and once again a shameless and rediculous tetris rehash. Probably worth $3 at most. If I had a dime for every tetris rehash re-release on a platform or homebrew game i'd be able to buy the world and eliminate tetris alltogether.

Tetris DS

Strengths: WiFi play, multiplay, 6 different modes

Weakness: none

In this game you can play a 10 player local versus mode. You can also try the 4 player WiFi mode against people worldwide. There are 3 different WiFi mode. There are the Standard 2 player mode which there is no items to use. The other mode is the 4 player mode with items. And the last one is the Push mode, which is a 2 player game.
In single player, there are 6 modes. There are Standard, Push, Catch, Touch, Puzzle, and Mission. I play WiFi non-stop. It's very fun and challenging against many people all over the world.

It's Tetris! Plus some more stuff!

Strengths: -Everyone loves Tetris! -Online Play! -Fun Classic Nintendo theme! -Items add some new fun

Weakness: -Purists may be disapointed by game play tweaks. (Endless rotate, ect.)

At its core this game is Tetris. If you like Tetris and you want to play it on your DS, this is for you! This game has a very fun Nintendo theme to it. It also has several new modes. (But to tell the truth, I usually just play classic tetris) There's one I enjoy that gives you tasks to complete and you try to do as many as you can before a game over. I've also played a two player mode where you and another player drop blocks from oppsite sides of the board. And there's more as well, all fun bonuses! The real gem is playing online! You will never want for an opponent again!

Tetris DS for the Nintendo DS

Strengths: + Nintendo themes/backgrounds/music + Online play + Extremely addictive

Weakness: - Tetris still hasn't changed much over all these years

This review is for Tetris DS for the Nintendo DS. And let me start off by saying that if you aren't a Tetris fan, this game won't change your opinion on that. It's still Tetris, the basic game hasn't changed much.

But for people like me, the real Tetris fans... that's not a problem. This game is classic, and this particular version (the first for the Nintendo DS), is pretty darn good. The Nintendo feel of the game really adds to the overall experience. Music, backgrounds, etc. from Nintendo's past really kick in that nostalgic feeling.

Online play is also a first for a major Tetris title released on a handheld. It's simple, and simply a BLAST to play with some friends. I highly recommend the multiplayer portion of this game.

Overall, I'm going to have to give Tetris DS 5/5 stars. For the Tetris fans out there, there's almost nothing better (save for Tetris DX). For everyone else... well, you might just find out how easy it is to get addicted.

Tetris DS

Strengths: Fun, deep puzzle game for the DS, perfect portable game

Weakness: N/A

Tetris has had a long history on Nintendo handhelds so it was no surprise that it made an appearance on Nintendo's hot DS system. This is by far the best implementation of portable Tetris yet, featuring many gameplay modes. To top it all off, there is multiplayer action through both single-cart download and the Nintendo WiFi connection (thus through the Internet - always an impressive feat for the little handheld).

This isn't just plain old Tetris either - there are several different game boards featuring Nintendo themes and music that add much to the atmosphere of the game.

Basically, if you like Tetris this is an excellent choice. If you don't know what Tetris is, then get out more (and pick up the game to check it out!).

It's Tetris!

Strengths: It's Tetris! A classic design that never dies. New modes and graphics.

Weakness: It's Tetris! Very little is improved. The new stuff isn't as good as the old stuff.

Originally, I had no interest in DS Tetris. I've played Tetris a lot. But, I was suckered in by the wi-fi and the touch mode. I haven't used the former, and the latter is an amusing distraction, but not worth it on its own.

Nintendo has done very well with the presentation of Tetris, but it's still, at its core, just Tetris. If you have any of the previous iterations, you're probably fine with that. It looks and sounds pretty, and offers new modes, but none of them are all that great.

There are specific Nintendo themes and tweaks to the gameplay. These are nice inclusions, but not that exciting. Puzzle mode is a good inclusion, but, again, it's okay but not great.

Touch mode is a great idea, and amusing for awhile, but it doesn't work as well as it could, or should.

On the one hand, this is a solid product with a lot to recommend it. On the other hand, it's a rehash, with very little (outside of wi-fi) to distinguish it from previous versions. If it were a budget title, I would have no hesitation recommending it, but it's fairly expensive.

If you want Tetris on your DS, this is a safe choice. If, however, you were looking for something like the next Meteos, with innovations and unlockables, then skip this and look for something else.

Hey everyone! Tetris is back!

Strengths: Its tetris; cool nintendo characters thrown in; many new modes; online play

Weakness: Its tetris, the same game you have played for over 15 years.

You know what tetris is, you know what you can expect. The game does have some new modes to keep it fresh and online is fun. It all comes down to this question: Do you like tetris? If so, then pick it up and you'll be pleased. If you're not crazy about tetris or are bored with it, Meteos is fun puzzle game that will give you some new experiences.

Good Tetris

Strengths: -Online Play and many different modes

Weakness: -Not much

Finally, a way to play tetris with your friends or anyone, anywhere. It's been a while since a good tetris game came out so if you are thinking of getting a tetris game, and you have a DS, then this is the one to get!

Best DS game

Strengths: Tetris, the game that name nintendo Hand held

Weakness: None

I LOVE TETRIS, I can't beleive it took Nintendo so long to make tetris for the DS. This game made the gameboy what it was, The new Tetris has 6 game modes, some take alot to get used too.

On line play is great, being able to play with some 4 people across the globe is fun as it is, but add in mario kart like power up and you got a fun filled game.

Also if you happen to have 9 friends in the area with a DS you can all play with local wifi off one cartage which is amazing.

tetris

Strengths: It's tetris, good music, online

Weakness: none

What more can someone say about Tetris? It's a great game, challenging, and now accompanied by Nintendo music. You can not go wrong with this game. With online, you can always find someone to play. great overall.

It's Tetris. You gotta love it!

Strengths: 6 Modes of play that are very challenging and WILL make you keep coming back for more. Wi-Fi play makes this game HIGHLY addicting!

Weakness: Very little, in my opinion. I had the game freeze during wi-fi play, but that could of been my connection. The only weakness I can think of is that I haven't heard the ORIGINAL theme! (Well, YET!!)

A great game without a doubt.
It's a classic game remade to become a classic in today's generation as well.
This is a game for both newer and older gamers alike.
Wi-Fi play will make this game always fun and always unique.

Tetris DS

Strengths: Lots of single player gaming and tons of multiplayer for as many as ten players

Weakness: Poor graphics and over the top old school nintendo inclusions

Tetris DS is still Tetris, and this version is a fantastic continuation classic game. The changes may turn-off those out there that just want Tetris, but they actually revitalize a stagnating game's design. Online playing is fast and hectic and is worth the cost of the game in its own rights and the possibility of ten player Tetris matches is phenomenal

Still Addictive After All These Years

Strengths: Still the same great game with wifi and multiplayer

Weakness: Dont't care for some of the new modes

A friend of mine had this game and it was part of what encouraged me to get the ds lite when it came out. I don't know why I like tetris and tetris-like games so much (I also play lumines alot on my psp), maybe I am just easily entertained. Some of the new features take a little getting used to but otherwise this is a great game for you ds collection.

Good update, but not great

Strengths: Colorful. Nostalgiac. Internet play. Multiplay using a single copy of the game. It's Tetris!

Weakness: No high score list. Repetitive music and backgrounds. Inability to turn off new features. Crippled internet play. Worthless new game modes.

This is the best portable rendition of Tetris since the original GameBoy's. It's colorful, and banks heavily on nostalgia of old Nintendo games. However, the music isn't as catchy as the old GameBoy's, and the backgrounds become repetitive. However, the control is good, and the design aesthetic is decent enough (I thought Tetris Worlds was rather bland).

Oddly enough, it only retains the highest score for each mode (there's not list of top three, just top) and therefore there is no name entry mode. So, if you share the game between yourself and friends, you won't remember who has the high score because there's no name. What were they thinking when they took this out? This is the biggest disappointment for me.

There is also a new feature that purists may hate because you can't turn them off. Introduced in Tetris Worlds (I think) is the infinite spin, meaning as long as you constantly rotate a block, it won't land.

The new game modes are a fun diversion but if you're buying Tetris, you're really only playing for old fashion Tetris. The internet play is oddly restricted in what modes you can play and with how many players. If you like these types of puzzles games, and don't want to play with a stylus, this is as good as it gets on the DS.

In all honesty, I probably would've preferred a port of the original NES versions of Tetris or Tengen Tetris. If you want something new and aren't afraid of stylus use, try Meteos (although that's getting harder to find) or the new Magnetica (based on PuzzLoop which is also the basis for the more widely know Zuma).

Now if only they would release Lumines for the DS!

Multiplayer Madness

Strengths: Fundamentally strong puzzle game, interesting new modes, WiFi play.

Weakness: Some new modes aren't too fun or intuitive.

Tetris DS is the first Tetris game I've owned since the original Tetris for the Game Boy back in 1990. For a Nintendo fanboy like me, it's a dream, with lots of NES references and plenty of interesting new modes to keep things fresh. The best features, of course, are the multiplayer and WiFi modes. Simple to learn, difficult to master, and lots of fun for puzzle game fans. Overall, I'd rank this as the second best puzzle game ever, after Tetris Attack/Puzzle League.

Tetris in DS

Strengths: Wireless play; New ways of Tetris

Weakness: None

Besides the traditional Tetris mode, Nintendo DS Tetris includes several different ways of playing Tetris. There are films about those online and if you have never saw those, you must see. Songs which are from ther Nintendo signature games are great! Highly recommend to buy a copy.

Tetris DS

“It’s time to put all those hours of playing Tetris to work,” portly Homer Simpson says as he goes to work fitting both family and several boxes of various sizes and shapes into his old station wagon. He comically fits boxes snuggly in place, then takes his wife, and bends her into a crooked seating position in order to fit the baby and his daughter Lisa in the front seat while the classic...
