A decent racer which has over 15 different licensed vehicles to choose from. They recreated over 200 miles of roads in Japan. There are alot of rivals to compete with. There is alot of options to fine tune your car.
Unlike track-based racing games, Tokyo Xtreme Racer 3 has you in a series of street races with singe opponents on sections of highway. The point of the game is to win races, so you can upgrade your car, so you can win more races.
This game will have you up and driving quickly -- but if you don't read the instructions, you'll be spinning your wheels needlessly. It's not at all obvious how to challenge opponents and get the game going. There's no tutorial mode, either. Many games help you learn how to play. This is not one of them.
It's pretty, it's fast, but it also feels very limited. If the idea of street racing and tuning your car appeals to you, you'll like this game. If you want pretty scenery or interesting tracks or a more accessible variety of cars, look for a different racer.
Graphics are good, but not stunning. The cars and highways look nice, but the tracks and environment aren't really the point. This is all about street racing and tuning. If that sort of thing grabs you, this game will provide lots of gameplay.
Strengths: Tons of cars and uprgrades, Same TXR style game play for fans.
Weakness: Graphics look pretty dated, can get a little boring racing the same way over and over.
I've always loved the TXR series, and I'm not sure why. You pull up behind a rival car, flash your lights and the race begins. If you win you get cash if not you try again. This happens over and over until the end of the game. Spend the money you make on new cars, turbo kits, body kits and such. Also after putting so many miles on you car you can actually get an engine swap, wich will drastically bring your cars performance up depending on wich engine you choose.
The TXR formula seems like it would be very boring just by reading about it, but once you start playing it draws you in and you can't stop. It help if you are a fan of cars though. Another thing that seems like it wouldn't work but does is that you race on one long track, or the streets of Tokyo, which you can unlock new connecting parts of as you progress through the game.
If you enjoy racing games in general you should at least give TXR3 a try, you might just get hooked like I did.

Crave's Tokyo Xtreme Racer let you joyride over a few miles of Japanese highway, challenging -- and being challenged by -- members of rival racing teams. The Tokyo Xtreme series has carved itself a nice little niche in the videogame racing world. It doesn't try to do a lot like the massive Gran Turismo games, but it has a few distinct elements that separate it from the rest. Developer Genki has stayed the course with Tokyo Xtreme Racer 3, fine-tuning the gameplay and expanding the playable highways to three Japanese cities instead of just Tokyo....
Once upon a time, a RX7 cruised the local streets. What a fine machine – handling and acceleration were excellent. Of course, owning such a car, there is the temptation to see how fast it can really go. Rubber through four gears, a smooth and effortless drive at 110 miles an hour – what a blast! Move into the present – the streets of Tokyo and and a little course call Shibaura Yokohane Out...
In 2001, Tokyo Xtreme Racer Zero gave players the opportunity to tear up the highways of Tokyo. Now two years later, Tokyo Xtreme Racer 3 adds the highways of Yokohama, Osaka and Nagoya, taking total road length to a monster 200 miles. All of it accurately modeled to look and feel just like modern Japan. For the first time in the series' history, TXR3 uses real cars licensed from Japanese, North...
